Round 2! The incubator is on!!!
So, product of Breading Group 1 is our F1 cockerel ‘Ellison’ (his mom is called Ellie). He is 5 months old and a rather large chap, who somehow finds himself in a domestically abusive relationship with 2 Welbar hens. Despite finding himself at the bottom of the...
Hi everyone, I’ve not provided an update for a while so I will let you know the latest movements.
We had another Breeding Group 3 hatch which again was fairly unsuccessful. The result was 3 hatched eggs which are 2 Silver Welsummer hens and one partridge cockerel (of no use). The cockerel is...
Thanks for this feedback, apologies for the delayed response, ive been bed bound with Covid, but im back up and running now.
We lost 2 hens last year who were paralysed in one foot, i suspected that was Mareks. it hasnt reared its head since then and i was hopeful it had gone but perhaps not...
Hi everyone, we have 2 chickens not looking well. 1 chicken seems to have recoiled it neck, when you make it move she shuffles around with here neck back - see picture.
The other chickens wing dropped a week or so ago, it’s now finding itself tripping over its wing with its foot, making...
Update - the incubator failed on the Breeding Group 3 hatch, no eggs survived and on autopsy it looks like only 1 of the 4 was actually fertile... its hard to say, but i have put another batch in.
None the less, Breeding Group 2 (Webar X Silver Welsummer) has hatched in the other incubator...
In the incubator due to hatch next weekend i have 4 'project' eggs. These are from breeding group 3 - Gold duckwing Welsummer x Partridge Welbar.
We are expecting:
25% Male 'gold duckwing' single barred
25% Male Partridge duckwing single barred
25% Female Silver Welsummer
25% Female...
I wish i could take credit for creating him, but he is an 'original' Welbar (i think). we live in the UK so there is a small amount of them knocking around, however as far as i know there are no silver welbars (large foul, there are some bantams) in the country.
Breeding Group 1 - Welbar over Barred Rock
We had 2 eggs in the incubator and both hatched, my Welbar eggs were far less successful (2 out of 8, looks like 4 of them stopped developing around 16-18 days).
Anyway, i promised pictures so here they are. Although not perfectly sexable, Barrred...
Thanks for your input, I started following your welbar facebook group last year after trailing through your old thread from front to back.
I completely agree with you above, the most sensible thing to do would be to concentrate on the Welbar over Silver Welsummers, as they are sexable and...
thanks, That is what I thought.
So things are as follows:
Breeding Group 1 - Welbar x Barred Rock (2 eggs currently on the heat)
Breeding Group 2 - Welbar x Silver Duckwing Welsummer (not yet laying)
Breeding Group 3 - Gold Duckwing Welsummer x Welbar (should have 8+ eggs on in 2 weeks)...
I have 2 eggs in the incubator, hatching in 1 week. The eggs are from a partridge Welbar rooster over a Barred Rock hen. when this cross is done with a welsummer, the chicks are sex linked. Is this also Going to be the case over the welbar? Or is the extra barring going to change things?
In my...
So, we have a few Welbars (in the UK). Some of the hens have a fantastic barring, with clear barred marking through to the tail feathers. Some of the others though are barred, but the feathers are not as clear.
I am hoping to improve the quality of the barred offspring and was wondering if...
