I live in Southern California and just bought four chickens. It's going to be in the 100's this weekend, as high as 106. How do I protect my chickens from dying? I have a pond that doesn't work, but I can run a hose to it and run water down the rocks into the pool portion of it. Do you think...
Would of never guessed! Just bought that sticky fly tape...now off to get vanilla car fresheners!

Try putting a whole bunch of vanilla, Christmas tree car air fresheners in and around the areas where files are a problem. People on BYC swear by them. Strange but true!

There might be enough room...I will have to check. I think I understand your post...hubby wants to know if the roost has to be in the coop or can it be outside somewhere?
Your chickens will enjoy an outdoor roost, but will need an indoor roost also, if possible. Will the chics be able...
Any idea on how to cut down on the flies in the chicken coop? I clean out poop daily and left over food but it's like the flies know food and poop could come at any minute so they hang around! lol!
Here is the first egg we got since getting our chickens yesterday! They were already laying when we bought them, but it's very exciting for us! I just wish I knew which of my four chickens did it!
We have our first egg!!! So for sure we have one egg laying hen! But it was in the walkway area...not the lay boxes. lol! And so far none of the chickens have used either roost. lol! But maybe later. Now if I just knew which hen it was! lol!
Sorry, I'm a bit confused. I have the lay boxes, on top of that I have a place for them to roost & then there is a lid on the very top. Am I missing something? As far as neting or a top to the run...I get that but my sister-in-law has an open run like we do and no problems as of yet. So much...
We are putting a roost board on top of the lay boxes with a 2 X 4 for them to stand on! So problem is solved I think!

Here is what you find if you go to the top and select coop designs, then small coops:

These might give you...
How can I tell for sure if they are roosters? I can see that the red thing (sorry...can't recall at the moment what it's called) is bigger on two of them....so I'm assuming that's how you figured it out. I heard they will make noise all day long if they are roosters and these ones seem no...
