Hi All,
I have a big bag of wilted romaine lettuce that I got for free at my grocery store. With this possible e.coli outbreak in romaine, is it still safe to give this lettuce to my hens? Can hens get e. coli through food like this?
They love it of course, and it will keep them busy all...
I was already laughing about getting up every two hours to fill hot water bottles, but I really would be like their Mama Hen cuddling up with them! Good luck up there in RI!
I'm here at the Jersey shore and we're expecting 60 mph winds and a foot of snow. I have two-week old chicks in a brooder in the basement, with a heat lamp on them. I am worried about the power too. I am planning to use big Mason jars filled with hot water if the power goes out. Anyone have any...
I don't feel like I could cull her. She's a pet, so the eggs aren't really the issue. What is the medication that can prevent her from ovulating?
Glad yours is still hanging in there!
Hello. I know your posts are from last summer, and no one ever really answered, but I have a hen in the same condition. She is 2 years old. Whatever happened to your hen? Did you ever find anything to help her? Any advice?
Thanks!
Thanks so much for the help, everyone!
Rachel BB, congratulations to you! I am three and a half years out now and still hanging in there. Enjoy every day with the chicks and your family.
Hello!
This pretty hen was in the Easter Eggger bin at my farm store this spring but she is no Easter Egger, I think. She is quite large and lays small very dark brown eggs. She is a lovely cinnamon brown color and her most striking feature is her very long yellow legs. She went through an...
The last three eggs that one of my hens has laid have been covered with a fine sandy black grit. The eggs are fine otherwise, and the grit wipes right off. The hens seem fine too. I am not sure which one is laying the gritty eggs. All the hens are about 9 months old. Has anyone seen this before?
Could anyone help me figure out if this white Easter Egger is a pullet? She (I hope!) is 8 weeks old. She's a little bossy but she doesn't really do anything else that makes me think she's a cockerel. She's just bigger than my other chicks and has more of a comb. But I have read that laying...
Our new chicks are finally out in their coop. I've gotten so much great information from Backyard Chickens I thought it was time to join. I've wanted chickens for years, and finally took the plunge this summer. We have loved every minute of it so far! Our flock includes a Barred Rock, an...
