    Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Hi folks! I looked at my four-week-old NN this morning and though "uh oh". These were vent sexed as pullets, so I was feeling somewhat confident I had girls. Are NN pullets prone to reddening early? These are the first of this breed for me. (Having trouble with attaching my photos)

    DNA sexing for chickens

You're right, three weeks would be a long time, and not timely when considering chickens. My service, however, is geared specifically toward chickens, so will not take three weeks. I like your idea about 4-H.

    DNA sexing for chickens

In response to the other questions: Marlene2012, I transmit the results via e-mail as soon as I'm certain I know the sex. This is usually in less than a week. Afterward I send a little "Certificate of Gender", via mail. Fancyfowl4ever, my goal is to make my service both quick and inexpensive...

    DNA sexing for chickens

Hi Brahmabreeder, The PCR method I'm using has been used for avian sexing of all sorts of species of birds by research scientists, and is very close to 100% accurate. Essentially, the sexing will be as accurate as the samples I get. As long as I get feathers (or egg membrane or blood) from the...

Is DNA testing 100% What's happening here?

Hi folks, DNA sexing is definitely accurate, as long as the feather that's submitted is from the right bird. That is to say, it's as accurate as long as the sample hasn't been mixed up before the bird is sexed. I've just started offering a service specifically for DNA sexing chickens. I'm a...

    DNA sexing

Hi folks, I realize that this thread is pretty old, but if someone happens to be Googling the possibility of DNA sexing chicks, I've just started offering a service specifically for this. I'm a chicken-obsessed mom, with a background in molecular genetics. Because I've raised cockerels I...

    DNA sexing for chickens

Hi BYC folks, I'm a chicken-obsessed mom, living in an area where I can't have roosters. Before I moved to California, I was a laboratory manager at a molecular genetics lab. Having lived through the less-than-fun experience of raising a baby who turned out to be a boy, I have decided to offer...

    Bay Area BYCers!

I've been searching for a while for a couple of nice OEGB to replace the pet/showmanship birds my daughter lost to illness and egg binding. Are any OEGB breeders planning to attend the Heirloom Expo? I've got a plan in place to get some from SoCal, but it might be easier on everyone if I get...

Sick 2 year old hen (adored pet of my 4 year old). Hunched posture, bluish comb, barely pooping PLEA

Here are some photos from just after her bath yesterday. She looks like she's walking here, but she was standing with her leg up for a long time. Today her posture is worse than it was yesterday. I forgot to mention above that I inserted a gloved finger in her cloaca today, and didn't feel an...
