    calling any one from missouri

I live in KCMO and have raised chickens for 5 years; added 4 ducks this year. I've got Road Island Reds, Barred Rock, an Americana, and White Leghorn. Ducks are Rouen. My Organic feed guy (troque farms) isn't restocking for the winter so does anyone have a source in this area?

    What's YOUR chickens' favorite treat?

Mine enjoy jumping for grapes off my vine...:( They also really enjoy cherry tomatoes and cabbage. They'll eat the broccoli leaves if I let them. This year we had an uprising of cicadas; they went crazy trying to eat them. At one point I went out in the evening and collected probably 50 of...

I can't seem to keep a chicken off my deck!

I don't have a glass back door, so don't have them looking at me but sometimes I'll find an egg on the porch. They always meet me on the porch when it's feed time though. I do fermented food so it takes a minute to get out, they even though I never feed them up there... I've considered...

Who else is waiting for that first egg?

2 ee 1 copper maran All about 15 weeks I have 15 total, remainder are laying age, but only getting a few eggs a day; 5 max. Maybe it's just too hot.

    broody hen again

I've got a buff bantam that does this too. I've been offered eggs but haven't tried it. I just broke her but if it doesn't take I may take up the offer.

    Double Yolks

I've gotten about 4 from 8 birds in the last year and a half. Think it depends on the bird, but I hear it's more common in young birds.

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

2 from 15 birds. They differ in age so not all laying age yet. Normally get 4 or 5. Might be the close to 100* weather.

    EE@ around 12 weeks a roo?

Age wise I was thinking it was a maran (we got several batches at different ages) but the wife was sure it was an EE. Living in a city has it's drawbacks. I don't mind roos. We mistakenly got 3 before and they made a nice broth.
