Just curious, I am new to chickens and have a beautiful brown girl that just started laying ( don't know her breed) but i have gotten 2 eggs from her with double yolks, how common is this? She seems to be the only one laying, i have two other hens but no eggs as of yet. One is a bantam and one is a broiler. Do they lay as well? The broiler was an accident i didn't know my breeds when i got an assorted variety from the store. Unfirtunatekly i got 4 Roos! in my straight run. Will be getting more pullets.

Awe, so we may have a super hen !

Often the bantam girl disappears in the evening and does not go iin the house with the others, so maybe she has a secret nest. Ive walked all around the back yard and haven't seen any. So either shes not laying or she hides them. She always magically appears in the morning when i go out and unlock the chicken house.

The very first egg my Columbian Blacktail laid was a big, weirdly-shaped double yolker. She laid regular eggs for several weeks after that but just recently laid another really big double yolker. My understanding is that it's fairly common to get unusual eggs (double yolks, weird shapes, weird shells, no yolks, soft-shelled etc) in very new layers while their immature reproductive systems "learn" the right way to make eggs. She might settle into laying "regular" eggs within a few weeks - she might carry on and be a regular double-yolker though! :)

The double yolk eggs are great for scrambling! :)

I get a LOT of double yolks from my flock. One every two or three days, from 5 chickens. I actually am starting to suspect it is the same chicken every time even. Is this possible?

Yes, we scrambled ours! They were very yellow, and they were yummy.

I've gotten about 4 from 8 birds in the last year and a half. Think it depends on the bird, but I hear it's more common in young birds.

May be the same one, mine only lays every other day.

Yeah, I think that's what is happening here too! Funny chicken. Wonder what is up, physiologically with that. Mine are brand new to laying, so it may be a phase, but the double yolks are so consistent I suspect that is all one chicken has ever laid. I wonder if she will grow out of it or if she will always lay doubles.
How old is your doubler?
I am imagining that as her yolks naturally get bigger as she ages, the yolks won't get stuck and wait around for yolk #2. Perhaps her body thinks they're too small to be taken seriously, its not triggering the egg white step, until there's more to them.
I have too much time on my hands. I have it all thought out. Lol
