First time hatch and it's awesome!

Mine are hatching right now too! My wife and I watched one pop out of its shell for the first time and were completely amazed! Out of 6 eggs, we have two hatched, two pipped, and two still rolling around. These are RIR babies from our rooster and hens. I already went out and congratulated...

How do I position eggs after removing from auto egg turner?

I just gently placed them on the floor of the incubator on their side. It appears they have rolled theselves into a position where they are comfortable. Mine are hatching right now on day 20 (2 out of six so far! 2 more pipped). I am a little worried that they are a day early, or a day and a...

    Eggs moving day 18

They seem to have settled this morning. Maybe they were just adjusting themselves wth the change of going from the turner to laying naturally. I was just worried they may start hatching way too early and be weak.

    Eggs moving day 18

I just put my eggs on day 18 lockdown and I noticed that every once in awhile they will move. They have been at a pretty steady 99.5 - 100 degrees throughout the incubation. Humidity has been on the high side of 50 - 55% throughout. It is up to 63% now that they are on lockdown. When I do...

Low egg production - it's mice!

I have had a rat problem recently as well. I tried one of the rat zappers - no luck. I tried old fashioned rat traps with peanut butter - no luck. The way I handle it now is with a pellet gun. I wait until an hour after sundown, open the main coop door, and can sometimes get get one. I also...

    Hen Killed Chick

From what I understand, mice can fit through a hole the size of a pencil eraser.

Florida Newbie with questions about bold red shoulder hawk and coop, also vaccines

I stopped by Mid Way on my way home from work and they did not have any chicks out. When I bought my chicks they said there was a 90% chance to be hens. Out of 6 chicks I had 2 roos...LOL. We are supposed to go to the Hard Rock this weekend for our anniversary, but with that luck we should...

Florida Newbie with questions about bold red shoulder hawk and coop, also vaccines

I live in Pasco County as well. Small world! We have a lot of hawks in our area; they actually have a nest in a tall pine tree directly behind our property. I built a permanent coop that has an 8 X 8 coop and an 8 X 24 attached run. The shingled roof is one unit over the entire structure. I...

Sour Crop? Roo died in my hands

I did not notice any odor. There was a puss colored discharge, and surprisingly it was not very much. Maybe a tablespoon. I did not put the discharge right to my nose, but he was only a foot or two away from my nose and I did not notice any odor. He seemed to go pretty quickly, and I had to...

Sour Crop? Roo died in my hands

I noticed today that one of my roos was very lethargic. I mentioned this to my wife, and she said "he seemed to be like that yesterday." I did some research on this forum and I suspected sour crop. I picked up the lethargic roo and massaged his crop. Yellow liquid came out of his beak, he...
