A Visiting Chicken in my yard. Please help me!

Looks just like my Americana Roo!

OMG I am shaking. Please advise.

I agree, sounds like a harmless snake shaking it's tail to seem like a rattler. King snakes will do the same thing. We have lots of every kind of snake in Alabama! I have seen this done. I would still kill it if it was in or around my chicken coop.

    When to give up?

No. Leave it in the composter. I have had the same thing happen. Probably just a hair line fracture in the shell where some oozing happened.

    Are ducks loud?

The yellow ones are pekins. They grow up to be big fat white ducks that do not fly. I have four. The females do quack loudly at times but not very often. They are definately more quiet than a rooster or guinea. My ducks free range with the chickens during the day but get locked up in their own...

    who has guinea fowl

We have A LOT of fire ants here in the south. I have never seen guinea or chicken attack a hill of fire ants so I would not get them for that purpose.

    who has guinea fowl

I absolutely love my guineas. My only complaint is that they are fairly stupid. We have 300 acres for them to run around on and they make a bee line for the road every morning. I cannot understand it. I spend about three hours every morning watching and chasing them back the other way. They...

    Silkies and Leghorns.............

My first chickens were buff bantam silkies. I wanted birds, wanted them now and, believe it or not, the only chickens I could find at that time were silkies. I love them and they make me giggle unlike any of my other chickens. They look like muppets to me. Anyway, I have had silkies mixed in...

breed of chicken egg & taste

I have not noticed any differences in taste based on egg color or size. The only thing that makes eggs taste different is the diet of the hen laying the egg. Insects and fresh greens / veggies make for a very orange and rich tasting yolk.

Two sweet silkies, but eating their own poop.yuck

Hmmm. I have never seen or heard of this behavior before so don't know how much help I can be. But, I do have a lot of silkies and they do not eat their own poop. Makes me think that there is a mineral or trace element deficiency. Sounds like you have tried everything. Do they have access to...

Cooler weather...does it slow egg production?

We are not cold here (avg 75 deg) but I am only getting about 2 eggs a day out of about 20 hens. I swear it is the change in light. That along with a combo of molting and a few broody hens. My ducks have not skipped a beat though. They should start laying again. I have never gone through a...

    Rooster Tie Out

Anyone know where I can purchase a leg tie out online? I have a unruly "gamey" mutt rooster who I really like but he doen't get along with other roosters. He usually free ranges but has taken to fighting through the fence with any other rooster that will participate. Fortunately he is friendly...

    Do ducks destroy gardens?

This has been my first summer having ducks and they (3) free range and have free access to my garden. Yes they will destroy some things. I didn't have many zucchini or yellow squash this year because they thought the leaves were very tasty and they ate most tomatoes that they could reach. I had...

    Combination Nest and Toilet?!?

Sounds like the teens are sleeping in the nest boxes. They may not know to get on the roost all the time. My hens will lay an egg in a nest with poop in it. Makes for a dirty egg.
