Gaping Chick. Pretty sure not gape worm.

Hi. I have an almost 8 week old chick who has been gaping for more than a week. She has never been outside so it can't be gape worm, right? She also appears to sneeze every once in awhile. She has no discharge from eyes or beak. She is active, eating and drinking well. Is it a respiratory...

    Prolapsed vent? Please help.

This little gal is about 2 weeks old. I have had her for 3 days and this just occurred this afternoon. She does not seem distressed by it. She is active, eating, and drinking. I tried wiping it, and although it is red it is not bloody. What is it and what do I do??

ANOTHER how to add to flock question (but a bit different!)

Hi! We had a flock of six, 1 year old hens. 2 days ago two were killed by an animal while free-ranging. We want to add 2 more hens to our flock and was wondering about the best way to do it. We will be able to get full grown hens, so the size shouldn't be an issue. My feeling was to do it as...

getting hens to lay in the nest box

I'm brand new to this. not sure why they would all choose one nest box, although right now I'd be ok with that! lol I guess i will just try keeping them in the run and not letting them free range. I thought it was strange also that the eggs were being layed in the afternoon. We found a few last...

Hi! We got our first egg about 10 days ago..... YAY!!!!!!! However, they are not laying in the nest box. We have a fake egg in each box and have tried putting their own egg in there. At first we found a few eggs on the coop floor, now we are finding them around our yard. We only let them...

Hi, I am new to raising chickens. I have 6 hens(pullets), 10-12 weeks old. How much feather loss is normal? We moved them into the coop 2 weeks ago and it seems in the last week there have been a lot of feathers on the coop floor. All the ladies seem to be acting fine, I checked them all and...

Hi all, We are new to chickens and after reading lots and lots on this wonderful sight i went to the local feed store to get some food-grade DE for our coop. Where can you get food grade DE in Northern CT/Western Mass?

I am in West Springfield. I went to Westfield Feed today and they carry food grade DE...unfortunately they were out of stock. The guy said it was ordered and will probably be in by Mon. Easthampton feed is their sister store, so that might be an option too.
