    Could a raccoon open this?

We have these on the egg door of our coop and so far raccoons haven't gotten in. However, I can't say for sure they couldn't open these because I don't think they've tried to get in through that door yet. We monitor our coop with wildlife cameras to keep on eye on things, and I haven't seen...

    Big Raccoon problem!

We are having a major raccoon problem right now too. Just a word of caution if you are using a PVC pipe feeder that you fill from the outside because they can get into a coop that way. We have a plastic cap on ours with weights on top, and that worked fine for 2 years. We have been trapping...

Ivermectin or Ivomec for Scaly Leg Mites

Thank you for the information. I was dreading trying the smothering method because my chickens aren't used to being held or picked up. I'm glad to hear there are easier ways to do this.

Ivermectin or Ivomec for Scaly Leg Mites

This is in reply to the post from Fairview01: Thank you for the response. The rest of my flock looks fine, but I read in many places that they are highly contagious and that the whole flock should be treated, but I'm glad to hear that it's not necessarily going to spread to the rest of them...

Ivermectin or Ivomec for Scaly Leg Mites

I would also like opinions on Elector PSP. I see there is no egg withdrawal with this, but it is extremely expensive. I'm told that the bottle will last a long, long time, but wondering what the shelf life is. I only have 15 birds so I won't be using a lot all at once.

Ivermectin or Ivomec for Scaly Leg Mites

Thank you. Are there any other pour on or easy to apply medications besides the ivermectin that work just as well?

Ivermectin or Ivomec for Scaly Leg Mites

Well, I have my first case of scaly leg mites. Actually my first case of mites of any kind. I have one rooster that has it pretty bad with no signs of problems on the other birds, YET. I have a total of 15 chickens, and I know that I have to treat all of them. I have read about many...

    Rooster protecting humans?

Not ready to send him to the crock pot quite yet, but definitely keeping an eye on him. He's not even 4 months old yet, so we're hoping he will settle down. At the same time, worried that he started acting like this so young. He seems to be maturing faster than he should be. He crowed for...

    Rooster protecting humans?

Has anyone had a rooster protect them from being attacked by another rooster? I had this happen this morning when our younger rooster went at me. Our older rooster, immediately came over and ran him off. It was an awesome thing to see, and I didn't expect it. Just wondering if this has...

    Rats inside my run!

Just a word of caution when using the bait stations or poison near your chickens. Even if the chickens can't get to the poison, please keep in mind that rats, and mice, will sometimes carry the poison to another location to store it for later and it might then be accessible to your chickens...

    Chickens and cats

They should be fine as long as you don't introduce them until the chickens are full grown. One afternoon last summer, I heard my hens making a lot of noise outside. When I ran out to see what was wrong, I found a stray cat surrounded by my hens. It ran off when I called the hens away. It...
