Gotta problem and really need some advice.

Lost the 9 mo. old rooster this morning. He was showing signs of gapeworm...holding mouth open with neck extended, not eating much and getting worse every day. I had to know so I did an autopsy on his neck and found a growth (2" long and 1" thick) surrounding the trachea. The growth had...

Gotta problem and really need some advice.

Thought it might be bacterial...been wet and snowy here with temps between 20* and 60*. Been cleaning out the hen house everyday and spraying everything with a clorox mixture. Mareks concerns me too...all chickens affected were from the same hatching last May. Thanks for the info, I will go...

Gotta problem and really need some advice.

Five weeks ago a hen (9 mo. old) started limping. Leg is not broken or dislocated but she would not put weight on it. I separated her and put antiobiotics in water for 4 days...no change. Eating and drinking as usual. Saturday (4 days ago) I put 6 drops of Ivamec on her skin...didn't help as...

Don't know what to do...4 chickens with 2 different ailments

Approximately 4 weeks ago one of my hens (9 mo.) started limping...moved her to separate building. Leg not broken or dislocated, she eats and drinks normally, no diahrea. Gave her Sulmet in her water for 4 days...no change. Then last week a hen and rooster had diahrea...very runny (like...

    Acts Like A Chicken

My daughter calls, "What ya doing Mom?" "Acting like a chicken", was my reply. The drama began three weeks ago when I was shutting up my chickens for the night. I noticed that one of my "new girls" which I had hatched in the Spring of 2012, was limping. Because of snow I had not allowed them...

    The Lap Chicken

In the Spring of 2012 I decided to add a few new girls to my flock. Quite by accident we ran into a breeder that was selling what she called "Golden Pencil Leg Hamburgs". I had never seen this breed in person but their coloring interested me because they reminded me of Ruffed Grouse. I...

    Bear Proofing

I agree...Back in the summer a bear took one of my girls off of the nest in the middle of the day, the next day it came back and took another girl right out of the yard, again in the middle of the day. Won't be eating chickens anymore!
