    Pullet?? Breed??

Ten weeks old. Assuming (hoping) a she. Can you tell gender and breed? Bottoms of its feet are black.

    Nervous

Our black pullet, Chick Norris, and our cockerel, Cornelius, have been together since day one literally. They are now ten weeks old and are going to live with a family friend who has eight hens. My concern is how attached Chick and Corny are. They are almost always side by side as in the...

Thought it was a cockerel, but...

I’m sorry I can’t help you with the breed. I don’t know; the chicks were my grandsons science project and he brought them home the day they hatched. No idea what the breed is. My first time with chickens too, so I suggest you post a picture in the ‘what breed’ forum and see what they say...

Thought it was a cockerel, but...

I’m finding lots more black feathers lately. Could the black chick be starting the juvenile molt? I don’t see bald places anywhere and I’ve not seen Cornelius pecking at it. Are you basing the cockerel definition because of the comb? Thanks for your help!

Thought it was a cockerel, but...

At eight weeks, I’m still confused about the gender of these chicks. We thought the brown one (Cornelius) was a cockerel, but haven’t heard any crowing, and it seems like it’s saddle feathers are rounded. The black one, Chick Norris, still has a small comb, very small wattles, and still...

It was about imprinting. The first thing the chick sees, it thinks is it’s parent. 7th grade science class. We had just taken custody of our grandson two months before this, and thought it might be good for him to have them.

Cockerel and a ? into the coop today

Thank you, Sagey_7878 and So Lucky. We will have to figure out what to do. We have friends with a small farmette and some chickens. I will talk to them about possibly taking Cornelius and Chick Norris both.

I agree it isn’t what I want to hear, but it is what I expected. We don’t have room for any more chickens. If Chick should be a female, would she do ok on her own if we found a home for Cornelius? They’ve been together since day one.

Cockerel and a ? into the coop today

Banner day here with our two almost 6-week old chicks. Cornelius started crowing. I was very disappointed, as I was hoping for two females. We still do not know the gender of Chick Norris, and I’m hoping it isn’t another cockerel. We finished the coop today and moved Cornelius and Chick Norris...
