I bought some barnyard mix eggs- I feel pretty confident on everyone's gender except this one. 6 weeks old- what do you think? Personality type is "I love food" if that sways your opinion at all.
Still around, the chickens are well. I'm having so much trouble with mice lately I am so tired of them. I keep catching them and they just get replaced with more. I bought a treadle feeder and they still found a way into it. Ew.
I should maybe mention it's hatchery quality. I've read typically the boys have the spiky hair-dos but that that doesn't necessarily hold true for hatchery.
Hello! I think I've got all my chicks genders figured out except this one. It's about 8 weeks old. It's hard to get a great picture because it thinks I'm a horrible monster but any guesses would be appreciated!
My little bantam got stuck between a cage and the run (I feel terrible and it's been moved). She either scalped herself getting stuck or her nice hen friends came and pecked her head before I found her. I cleaned with a saline solution. I've been spraying with vetericyn and using an antibiotic...
Hello! I hatched some eggs that were sold to me as "light brown Dutch bantam" Can anyone confirm what the color is? Also, I have some with white/yellow shanks and some with slate what would be the appropriate color for show? I feel confused by what I've found on the internet! Not the greatest...
I don't think it's the heat lamp that is the problem but I would take them off it in a couple days under normal circumstances anyway. Temp right under the light reads at 90 and the water and food are on the opposite side of the brooder and the thermometer there reads at 73. The water is up on...
Thanks. Do you know if I use the same dosage of corrid for chicks as I would the chickens?
I think the feed is okay but maybe I will go buy a new back just in case.
First one I don't know. I would guess it was over a week I had her for a few days before the others hatched. 2nd was 3 days and...
I have my bantam chicks inside. I have bigger breed chicks that are outside during the day, they come in and sleep in the brooder under their own separate heating pad but then they go back outside in the morning. So they have been exposed to the each other but they aren't really eating or...
Thanks. I don't have a vet nearby that will see chickens but I'll call and see if they will do the tests.
Her crop is emptying.
She was at the show for 3 days- so it doesn't make sense that she would have picked up Marek's there. If she already had it though and is now showing symptoms that...
I had 3 chickens go to a show. 2 came home just fine. We checked out Saturday night and on Monday my Araucana started having problems (so it will be a week tomorrow that she's been sick). She's about 18 weeks but she hasn't laid yet (just throwing that in in case it could be egg binding on her...
That's about what I thought on the first 3 (so I'm getting better at this ha ha) but that last one has me stumped. I'm so bummed the double tuft Araucana is a Cockerel. Maybe he'll never crow and I can keep him. I can dream right?
The Araucanas are 9 weeks old
Is that old enough to tell if they are a roo or a hen? Also, is this silkie a roo? He's my only silkie with a comb and he's a jerk!
They were out in our yard. I was out there to lock up about a half hour late. The big hens were in the coop already but the doors were wide open and they would've been totally accessible to ehatwhat. The chicks pile in a corner by our window well and I take them to the coop when I go to lock up...
