So, what you are telling me are my new edible pets aren't even good at staying alive?
Crap.
If this keeps up I'm going to coin a new phrase:
"dropping like chickens."
Does anyone else not find it a little disturbing? Kind of like that scene in the Matrix where that bald dude starts unplugging...
Ok, so I have a flock of Buffs with 2 (well 1 now) roosters. They are about 15 weeks old. They're happy, well-fed, and seem healthy, even this one I'm telling you about. The wife went out to feed them today, and all were fine, when she turned around one of the roosters was laying on the ground...
Well, I've hit week #5 here with my 14 Buffs and 6 unknown black roos fro Ideal. I'm pretty sure they're black australorps. The digital camera is MIA so... no pics:( being my first experience with chickens, it's been more interesting than I expected. The Buffs are getting realllllly fluffy...
Cast Iron here. Used to be a cook, and LOVE cast over anything else. It's healthy for you and doesn't have the problems associated with teflon and aluminum. I love my little cast egg pan
Wow... I'm really curious as to why they do it now. I had to call the wife in to watch... it's funny. For a split second they as shake their heads then just go back to the routine.
Ok, when I'm in playing with the chicks, I'll make a sound like a turkey/chicken and certains ounds they'll all shake their heads until I stop. It's weird... I mean it's like it's an uncontrolled response to a certain sound or frequency or something. Anyone else noticed this and know why they do...
Have a 2 week old Buff Orp that is hopping in the feed trough and looks like she's trying to make a little dugout in the corner to nest in. Is that what she's trying to do this young, or is this something else? Thanks
Well, my town used to be called Cathead. Apparently back in the day the farmers got sick of all the barn cats and started chopping their heads off and they'd take the heads and put them on the fence posts... I was told that was for something like keeping coon/possum or some other predator away...
Hey Marko, I get over that way. If ya promise me you'll cook me and wife up something real good I may even make a special trip over. I guess I don't know where abouts the Wrens Nest is... give me some directions and I'll make sure we stop in.
Here's a couple pics of my Buff Orpingtons and the 'heaters' that were thrown in for the ride. Anyone know what they might be?
Here's Dumpy, kinda hoping he/she makes it, but it's kind of the runt of the bunch. This one was in the worst shape, I've really been trying to work with her/him.
Im very near Harrison Valley, but it doesnt get that bad here. It's really been mild since the late 90's here. It gets into the single digits once in awhile, but from what I've read on the Orps they should be able to handle our weather here. I saw a fella today had about 15 of his outside and...
What my problem was is I didn't account for the extra chicks they sent to keep the B. Orps warm (they look like barred rocks to me). I was going to go with an 8x10 and let them out during the day. The thought of a run hasn't really been pressing yet. Not until fall anyways. I will probly put...
