I am getting ready to build a coop for my new chicks, 18 successful hatch out of 19!!! After giving away the roosters I am assuming I will have about 8 hens. My question is, how close to the house, deck ,etc is too close for smell? I plan to keep it pretty clean. Is it smelly? I didn't...
i kept adding warm water with a turkey baster. also, read after the fact that you should not open the bator at all during the hatch, i opened it a lot to watch the first of the chicks hatch then panicked later.
thanks so much everybody. other are hatching but I think she died while zipping, the shell isn't making that respiration movement the other have been. going to hope, though. 7 chicks crashing around in the bator, 9 to go!

One of my eggs zipped at 2pm, (now 4pm) but stopped moving and doesn't appear to be breathing inside. Do i do anything or just assume it won't make it?
