Game or phoenix? Looking for a hatchery shipping currently

I'm having a lot of trouble locating anyone shipping chicks atm. This is a little more difficult given that I'm looking for phoenix or old english game breeds. I've setup a separate coop with the intention of using them as surrogate broody moms but am foiled due to lack of availability :)

    Friendliest standard size "game" breeds?

Just looking for some thoughts on this. I have an additional coop I have setup by our barn/workshop and I'd like to get a silver phoenix or game breed rooster with a couple hens to hang around during the day. I have seen comments about the phoenix not being particularly friendly but I had a...

Old English Game as flock guardian?

Well our old rooster sacrificed himself when a neighbor's dog went after the hens a few weeks ago. The chickens were outside of our goat pasture temporarily so didn't have our dogs for company. I want to pick a breed to replace him likely to keep an eye on the sky for hawks and to herd the...

    Rolled oats for ducklings?

Ok it sounds like I'm worrying a bit too much about this. We've only raised chickens to this point and I didn't want to mess the little ducklings up.

    Rolled oats for ducklings?

I've not been able to locate anything but non-medicated chick starter that is 24% protein. I was thinking of cutting this with 30% oats but I'm not sure for very young chicks if that is the best plan. Does anyone soak oats before feeding?

    Saxony or Buffs?

Thanks everyone. 15 will be arriving soon from ideal poultry 3 of which will be drakes. My father has had some problems eating chicken eggs recently so I'm hoping these allow him to enjoy family breakfasts a bit more again :)

    Saxony or Buffs?

I think I'm just going to order the Buffs. I really like the blue/green egg color but it seems like kind of a crap shoot and the buffs don't seem to have a dramatically lower chance of laying them than say the rouen based off this table

    Saxony or Buffs?

I'm planning on adding some ducks mostly for eggs to the menagerie and am trying to decide between the Saxony (harder to locate) or Buffs. Does anyone have experience contrasting these? My initial impression is that the Buffs would be better for egg production / dual purpose. Edit: also are...

UPS pickup at facility or let them deliver?

I apologize if this has been asked and answered 100 times. I'm staring at a UPS -oops USPS not UPS-tracking page right now.. Do you normally allow the drivers to deliver the day old chicks or have them hold them and pick them up at the facility? It is summer so I'd think they would be OK in...

    Maximize rooster size?

I'll do that then. Any recommendation on what I should get instead or should any males from those breeds work?

    Maximize rooster size?

Hmm well that isn't the best news. The hens are a mix of welsummer, barred rock, ameraucana etc. The roosters haven't shipped yet. I could probably contact the hatchery and try to swap them out for another breed if it is better...

    Maximize rooster size?

I've ordered some Jersey Giant roosters to keep an eye on the laying hens. Are there some specific steps and things I can feed to ensure they grow to as large and intimidating a size as possible? We've had a few instances where the kids left the gate open at night and lost some hens lately...

It's been a rough 3 weeks for my homesteading aspirations

I think if I were living in your area I would consider a pair of livestock guardian dogs. Not sure what breed would be best suited to your climate.
