I have an eight week old blue laced red Wyandotte who I believed to be a cockerel for the longest time. He/she has a bright comb, wattles, and pointed hackle feathers. However, recently I have been looking at pics of male blrw at about the same age and they’re much more developed than this guy...
I have a buff Orpington who is about 5 1/2-6 weeks old and I am unsure about the gender. Because of the red and developed comb/wattles I am guessing cockerel but just wanted to hear what other people thought.
If you have any tweezers or something that can pick little pieces of shell off carefully then I would suggest using that. Also I would wrap the eggs in a warm, moist towel when opening them. Just remember that if you see blood just stop peeling away the shell, however losing a little bit of...
Thanks. I was pretty sure it wasn’t but it doesn’t look like it would have come out of any of the other roosters besides the BLR. I heard that when breeding them only half turn out to be the true BLR coloring. What do the other chicks look like?
I have this chick that hatched yesterday out of a blue laced red Wyandotte egg. However I don’t know if it is the right color to be a blue laced red. I have a blue laced red rooster, a Maran/turken cross rooster who’s black and red, and a polish/d’uccle/buttercup cross rooster who’s white. Does...
I have chickens, ducks, turkeys, and quail, along with horses, sheep, a dog, two cats, and sometimes pigs. In my chicken flock my breeds of roosters are a blue laced red Wyandotte, a Maran/Turken cross, a Mille fleur/polish/buttercup cross, and a Mille fleur d’uccle. Some of the breeds of hens...
Last night I put another duckling in the incubator with “Little Quack” as I've decided to call it to keep him company. This morning they are doing very well together and Little Quack is following the other duckling around. Still wobbly but getting much better. Most of the time he can flip...
Just an update- the little duckling seemed to be getting weaker and weaker throughout the day despite feeding and watering every hour or so. It got to the point where I could hold it on its back to syringe feed it and it wouldn’t even struggle to flip over. It had no control of its neck...
I had something similar happen. My broody hen left her eggs two days before hey we’re going to hatch. I didn’t break them open until 4 days later. Thinking they were dead, I cracked open the eggs (not carefully at all). The first three were dead but when I opened the last one a little...
