Let my chickens out today and saw my barred rock pullet limping. Don't think it's a broken leg as she can move around pretty quickly. Just limping. How long does it take to heal? I have no idea why she's limping.
Found a mouse today inside my chicken tractor. I scared it away before closing the coop door for the night. Should I be more concerned about a potential mouse problem? Or is it no big deal? Thanks in advance for any comments.
Let my bantams go out to free range this morning. Just heard some commotion outside and went to investigate. I saw a hawk on my favorite hen. I ran towards it and scared it away, unfortunately she was already dead. Doesn't surprise me that this is the one that was targeted since she was most...
For the last 5 days I noticed no eggs inside the coop. I was getting 1 or 2 eggs a day from my 3 pullets. I then found the place that they decided to lay their eggs while they free ranged during the day. Are these eggs ok to eat? I'm a newbie here and think they're fine, but just thought I'd...
I never really worried about them and have always let them free range all day even when I wasn't at home. After seeing that hawk so close to the coop I'm now a little nervous. I'm only letting them free range when I'm at home.

So back in May I got myself a chicken tractor that I was told could house up to 6 standard sized chickens. Perfect since I was only planning on getting 3 bantam chicks it would be more than enough. 2 weeks later I thought hmmmm... since I have the room I might as well get 2 more chicks and...
Do the pecking orders for roosters change more or less frequently? I have 3 roos and can't seem to tell which one is dominant. One day one is chasing the other two around and another day another one is doing the chasing.
I ask because I may need to get rid of 2 roos since I have 3 roos and...
Out of my 5 chicks 3 of them turned out to be roos. I just found a home for 1 of them, as a co worker of mine has 10 hens with no rooster. It's a good feeling to know that my roo will be going to a good home as a "pet".
