Hi. I'm trying to determine what's wrong with my Australorp. She's a little over a year old. A little history of my flock: I got four chicks from the same person in March of 2015. One, a Silkie, was full-grown and the other three were 8-10 weeks old. About 6 months ago, my Silkie stopped...
She died in my lap this morning. I'm so sad. At least she didn't struggle but she was so weak she could not stand or keep her eyes open. She died as I was calling the vet to try and get her in. I don't think they could have helped her though and she was way too far gone.
My precious silkie has been gaping for 3 days. I swabbed her throat for gapeworm but saw nothing. She won't make her usual cooing noises but I can hear slight squeaky sounds when she breathes. She also has diarrhea and is losing weight. Her gait is slow and wobbly--just no energy. I put a...
Today, my Silkie and I are hanging out while I work in the dining room. I bathed her and put a diaper on her (for the first time). My dogs and cat don't mind, but my husband does. She'll have to go back out once he gets home. But for now...
Today I bathed my black Silkie, Luna, and put her polka dot diaper on her so she could sit in my lap while I work. Hopefully she'll get comfortable and fall asleep. Right now, she's just making her little peep noises. It took us a little while to figure out the diaper but I think it's on now...
Haha. Mine are little noisemakers, too...except for the Silkie, who just makes tiny peep noises. I just hope the neighbours don't get mad at me. Maybe I should share some eggs to keep the goodwill?
My EE is constantly "talking" her head off! All day, she makes noises no matter what's going on. She gets loudest when she finds herself separated from the other girls. In other words, she is NOT QUIET. I don't know if it's because she's an EE, though, or if it's just "her personality".
My...
That's hilarious. My neighbor who is unfamiliar with chicken asked me if it was "the dog" making that noise. I had to tell her that "no"...it's the chickens that do that before and after they lay an egg. She responded with, "That's so funny!" but I'm not sure if she meant "funny-cute" or...
Good advice. Mine have been particularly noisy in the morning (egg-laying time) and I don't want my neighbors to get upset. I just hope they won't see a treat as a "reward" for crowing and making a ruckus!
Love the Harry Potter references. I would love to have a rooster just so I could name him Voldemort.
Mine are named: Luna (like Lovegood), Pickles, Rosie and Oreo.
I have a Silkie who had some of her feathers plucked/picked out by another mean chicken (who I gave away!). I've been adding a little poultry vitamin powder to their water, plus they get treats of yogurt, a little leftover meat and/or egg and vegetable scraps in addition to their crumbles. Her...
