    Multiple chickens with prolapsed vents

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's been the lack of feed in the run. When I closed them up for the night the feeder was almost empty. Hopefully that will help. We're treating the vents with Epsom salt baths, cleaning, pushing in and using preparation H.

    Multiple chickens with prolapsed vents

I think I may have figured out my problem. I haven't had a feeder in the run (only in the coop), and they're outside nearly all day. I went and bought a feeder this morning specifically for the run, and they have been eating like crazy out there. So, I think they're deficient in nutrients/diet...

    Multiple chickens with prolapsed vents

I don't know what's going on, but I've had three out of ten hens with prolapsed vent in the last few days. I've dealt with this before but with one hen. They have tons of space in coop and enclosed run, feed in the coop, and water in the coop and run. Oyster shell provided and sand bedding in...

    No feathers on chickens' necks??

I'm dealing with the same thing. A few of my girls have some missing spots on the neck or thinned out areas on the neck. I sprinkle DE throughout the coop and haven't seen any mites, etc. Theyre totally healthy otherwise, but look a bit scraggly. I don't have a roo and haven't noticed more...

Hen Just Not Acting Right - Sour Crop?

Hard to say. I just dealt with impacted crop, which lead to sour crop. If she has sour crop, her crop will literally feel like a water balloon and you'll smell a sour smell from her face (or breath). I know when it's hot out they'll drink a lot more water, resulting in runny poo - that's normal...

poop stuck on my chickens bottom (large area) ! help what do I do?

i know, their poop seems to harden into cement when it dries! Glad to hear she's free from that extra weight. We ended up trimming a piece of wood on the roost and it hasn't happened again for ours.

    ISA-Brown page. :)))))))

It's completely normal! My ISA chicks turned really light as well growing new feathers - I named one Marilyn as my "busty blonde"! She was almost white. They'll grow in more brown feathers over time, and some will end up being lighter or darker than others. I have one that's quick dark with...

Seeking Help: Hen lost weight, drooping wings please read

Were you able to find out what was wrong? I have a hen that's looking quite "scraggly" lately - either she's pulling out feathers or getting picked on and her crop is small and kind of hard.

    Frozen eggs?

I've been collecting frozen eggs lately with our cold temps, due to the fact that I work all day and can't collect until dinner time. Haven't had any issues with them yet. I put them in the fridge and they're perfect by the time I use them.

has anyone ever been bitten by a chicken?

Chickens will peck at anything they're curious about, but it can hurt! I've been bitten but I don't think it was intentional to hurt. One day I went in with my nails painted dark - never again! They went to town on my fingers!!

    Chickens are making LOUD noise

I was shocked at first at how loud my girls could be - they were practically yelling. I often joke that they sound more like geese than chickens!

    Blood on chicken

Quick update! After reassessing her when I got home, I realized that the blood was coming from her nose. She had dried crusty blood in her nostrils. So, looks like a nose bleed caused by a hard peck when roosting. She's good to go now - all are getting along. I'm so relieved!

    Blood on chicken

I hope that's all it is! I'll keep an eye on her and update anything new. Thanks!

    Blood on chicken

I hope it doesn't continue! They're about 8 months old, so they're used to roosting. i thought since it was dark she wouldn't get pecked, but I guess they still know who's injured. :(
