    Cockerel?

But don't the saddle feathers seem rounded?

    Cockerel?

It is not crowing. It is a very docile chicken. I do have an older hen that crows when she wants to come out, but no rooster. I know that it has several roo traits, but it also has hen traits, and I think the saddles look rounded and but the hackles are a mix.

Here are some of the pics from three weeks ago.

    Cockerel?

OK, here is an update. I felt better after the post by fivetoed, but today, when I took new pics, her feathers look to me like a cockerel, even though her face still looks female. The brown bird's face looks like the white bird also pictured, but more male-looking feathers have appeared IMO...

    Cockerel?

I think I already know the answer to this but am in denial because I was sure this was a pullet up to this point. This is a barnyard mix chicken. She hatched around mid-February, putting her at around 11 weeks. She was the one I was sure was a hen, smaller, docile, nothing gave her away until...

What do you think? Pullet or Cockerel?

I'm going with cockerel because today I examined his throat area and I can see little pink wattles coming in :(

What do you think? Pullet or Cockerel?

I got the bird from eggs we hatched in my classroom, barnyard mix. The bird is very docile, but its comb has started to look a tad pink. There are no siblings who resemble this bird, so it's hard to compare it with the others. It is about 2.5 weeks old. It is larger than the others, but the...

    Egg issue

In the past, when I had more time, I used to feed a mash. I'll likely get yogurt today and tomorrow I'll make some oatmeal and try hiding it in there. Thanks

    Egg issue

Her stool looks normal and has been, but the three hens all have messy bottom feathers, so I'm confused. The 8 pullets I have all look great with no mess. It's a mystery to me. I saw on another thread about hiding oyster shell or powder in yogurt so I will try that. I have noticed that the...

    Egg issue

But why would it be just her and she has nice fresh oyster shell available. And then there's the poppy bottom, though clean vent. Could it be worms?

    Egg issue

I have 3 18-month-old hens. One of my hens is a Rhode Island White. She used to be a great layer but then her eggshells started getting soft, about 3 months ago. Now her eggshells are completely soft and squishy and she just leaves a mess in the box. I've been so busy I haven't had time to...

    Brinsea Mini Advance Incubator

That is correct - one pot until the last couple of days, then both.

    Brinsea Mini Advance Incubator

I wanted to give a little update for anyone this applies to. I hatched out seven welsh harlequin eggs, a light breed of duck, and 4 of 7 eggs pipped in the wrong end. They barely turned in this machine and the fact that they laid horizontally contributed to this issue. I wouldn't really...

    Age for culling question

I have a 20 austrlorp cockerel that I have raised organically but have not been able to sell so I'm going to cull him. 20 weeks is a fine age for his breed, yes? Going to make croq au vin. He won't be too tough, right?

what do you feed your ducks in ??? pics welcome lol

If I'm feeding moistened mash, I use a glass pie dish. If its crumble, I use the standard chicken feeder. I feed the crumble when I'm out of town since its not a two or three time a day event like mash is.
