its not blood, a few times the splattering was white. I thought maybe extra calcium hthat is depositing on the egg shell or something. But the last two eggs from her have had the light brown splatters, i doesn't wipe off.....though it might scrub off.
I have a chicken that is laying eggs with spots. They almost look like paint splatters. She lays a brown egg and the spots are a slightly lighter shade of brown. She just started doing this. She started laying about 8 -12 weeks ago and is a barred rock.
I am hoipng to nip this problem in the bud, but if she doesn't shape up.........it's going to mean "curtains" for her. She's two years old, so I don't think she'd be good meat anymore.
I have to say that is a fantastic idea ! Its funny they all use the same nesting boxes. I have five boxes. And they use one box and have one spot on top of a bale of hay that they use. And she seems to only be eating her own eggs not anyone elses eggs. But the next one she lays that I see, I...
So...does anyone think that if I cage her up with fake eggs with hotpick on them that it will stop her from eating her own eggs? She is allowed to free range about 12 hours a day and bad habits are hard to get rid of. So any other ideas? I just gave them 4 cups of oyster shells and a large tub...
I'll try sticking some wooden eggs in the nest and give them more oyster shell. They do eat what I put out for them now. I put out about a cup or two weekly. Maybe they need more.
......Now she commands the kiddie pool? Your chickens swim?
She was kept in a 2 x 4 wire cage by herself, I think that is why she started eating her eggs.
She now is free ranging bird, so you would think she would stop, but she has not.
I give them calcium, so I don't think it is that.
Do you...
I gave them the recommended dose on the back of the bottle.
Two days full dose, 4 days half dose.
They are free ranging birds. but they are eating grower pellets and scraps from the table. (no meat)
The weather has been in the 70's and 80's for the last couple of weeks.
They are all ages. Most...
I just finished treating my flock yesturday with Sulmet for having runny bloody poo ......and now I noticed that at least one of the chickens still has traces of blood in its stool. What should I do?
I have already started them on the Sulmet so I don't think I will switch at this point. To not give them the recommended dose isn't that the same as not finishing the antibiotics that a doctor would give a human (which is a bad thing to do because not finishing the medication can allow the...
