i live in the Houston MO area and got one of those pre-built buildings (12X16) for a coop this last time. It is raised about a foot to a foot and a half off the ground, but i keep the chooks from running under it with 2X4 wire around the outside. i use the deep litter method too and clean out...
Here are two i found, some of the panels are in place to divide the stalls, but not the fronts/gates yet. The tack room is pictured from the outside (inside the barn)
i did the same with panels for pens, each stall is10X8', i ended up with 8 stalls in a 30'X40' pole barn, with the one on the end with the door turned into a tack/feed room (enclosed with wood). i used 4' gates on each one. i was trying to find the photos but of course, since i'm looking, now...
Pretty sure heat lamps draw too much power to use with a solar set-up, however, i'm far from an expert. There are many posts on here and elsewhere advising against using heat for chickens in winter, they don't need it in general, and as long as your coop has adequate ventilation they should be...
great idea! thanks! i have some that are about that age difference and wondered also if the older ones will pick on the youngers, there is quite a bit of size difference at the younger end....all standard chooks tho...
don't stress, i've had chickens for 40+ years and they've always been around wild birds, i've had very few sick birds over the years, just roll with it!!
wow! so nice, you should get some burlap to hang over the fronts as a light blocker too....sure wish you could build me some!! :thumbsup:woot bet your chooks will love you!!
