    Inspect a molting chicken's crop?

🤣 Wow - you know my little Waffle so well. She's such a drama queen! Never realized that she might be playing this up too. Ha! I can't tell you how comforting it is to hear this. Thank you. I've been giving her scrambled eggs every other day. (My Wellsomer JUST finished a 2.5-month molt.)...

    Inspect a molting chicken's crop?

@aart Thanks for your insight and suggestions! I did check her crop this morning, and it was empty. So that was a relief. But she is still walking and acting funny. I observed her for roughly 10 minutes this morning and she's walking really oddly. It's hard to explain, her head is up, but...

    Inspect a molting chicken's crop?

@EmtheFishLady Thanks for chiming in. Here are a few photos. The best I could get. When you've handled molting hens in the past, did you use a towel or blanket or something?

    Inspect a molting chicken's crop?

Hi, my poor hen just started molting earlier this week. Horrible timing, as the high has been in the 40s and the low has been in the mid-20s. The past few days she's been acting very peculiar. Initially, I thought it was because she was so cold, but now she's acting like she is dizzy. She takes...

Hen with lead poisoning, now possibly egg bound, OR?? Help please!

Thanks, @AidKD! I saw this article as well. It was a good one! @Matzwd not sure if the lead poisoning triggers the EYP, but my vet said it can be pretty hard on their systems. She was on EDTA for about a month. I guess I wouldn't be surprised if they are linked somehow. She finally pooped late...

Hen with lead poisoning, now possibly egg bound, OR?? Help please!

Reading that a recent round of antibiotics could be the cause. I was able to get her to eat a few pills hidden in tomatoes and grapes before she caught on. Maybe this messed up the flora in her stomach! Also looks like egg yolk peritonitis and lead poisoning can lead to sour crop. :(

Hen with lead poisoning, now possibly egg bound, OR?? Help please!

Oh gosh, I didn't even consider that. But you might be right since her crop has been so full. Do you think that's why she's smacking her lips? Do you know what I mean? She smacks her mouth a lot and shakes her head after eating and drinking. Like she has a bad taste in her mouth, I was starting...

Hen with lead poisoning, now possibly egg bound, OR?? Help please!

Thank you for sending this along @AidKD. I have some oregano oil (it's also good for headaches in humans). I'll try it. I had some doxycycline leftover from her earlier visit to the vet. I had a really hard time getting her to take it a few weeks ago, but after watching a bunch of videos I got...

Hen with lead poisoning, now possibly egg bound, OR?? Help please!

This is a great site @AidKD thanks for sharing. I didn’t come across it in my search. It confirms my peritonitis suspicion. Sigh. Not sure I can afford another trip to the vet. Ill try to see what I can do for her. She’s definitely loosing weight as I can feel her chest bone. I’ll spending the...

Hen with lead poisoning, now possibly egg bound, OR?? Help please!

UPDATE: I gave her another bath today. While she was in the bath I examined her belly and I did not feel an egg. She is still smacking her lips and shows little interest in food, tho I did get her to eat a bit. Her crop felt about the same, like a hot water balloon. After both baths, she had...

Hen with lead poisoning, now possibly egg bound, OR?? Help please!

Hello. I've been nursing my one and a half-year-old hen for over two months now. It first started out with her laying an egg with no shell. Just came right out of her in the yard when she and the other hens were out free-ranging for the evening. Following that she started acting lethargically...
