    More specifically, are MORNING GLORYs toxic to chickens

    I know I'm commenting on an old post here but my chickens and geese adore morning glorry flower heads when they drop off. They seek them out. I didnt know they were toxic so I'm glad to hear they're probably not! They are all over my land and wrapped round all my roses etc. They are a pest really.

    My 2 are eating very well but mostly lettuce and cucumber still. There's no grass here in the summer, and broccolli not very often in the shops, so they are getting their favourite watermelon a lot. They had some apple and peach and liked that too. They're not keen on the dry chick food I buy...

    Hi, I've been on BYC for a while as a chicken owner, but have now got a couple of goslings. Unfortunately I bought them off one of the gypsy vans that come round here in greece, and they weren't well raised to say the least and were a right scruffy poorly little pair.     I had one lot last year when only 1 out of 12 eggs hatched alive! Then a fox got that 1. Nightmare. One of these I helped is great now but the other is not good and it seems to have a weak leg, so I guess you’re right, maybe it should have been left be.

    Well I helped them both out the eggs. Not sure if it is the right thing to do or not, but one is super fit and eating and drinking and the other is a bit smaller and a bit more wonky on its legs but it may strengthen up. :D:D

    Don’t have heat lamp but have them in insulated box with warm hot water bottle 2 still alive.

    She was still pretty much sitting yesterday. The last chick hatched overnight, but she’s had enough now and the chicks are whizzing about so she’s preoccupied. Just wondered if there was any way to help them out. I’m trying to borrow an incubator.

    My broody hen has hatched 6 of 10 eggs and now has chicks running about so has left the nest. There are 4 remaining eggs and I float tested them and at least 2 of them wiggled so are potentially viable. What shall I do? She doesn't seem interested in sitting any more. Its really warm here...

    Topic of the Week - Chicken Myths, True or False?

    I live in Greece and everyone has chickens in their backyards here. I was told by an old guy to raise my small chicks on a mixture of chick feed and broken rice which they sell here. I have been and they seem to be growing well.

    Thanks for the comprehensive reply! The eggs were given to me by a friend who said they were all fresh laid, and I thought it would be good to have some fresh blood in the flock. I can't vouch for their handling before he brought them to me, and some of the eggs were broken so hadnt been...
