    Another SS gender question

Mine has that same pink/red in the comb...the other SS chick I have does not. Her comb is not pink at all.

    Another SS gender question

Thanks!! I couldn't find any straight run SS in the feed stores near me-I got a few from the Pullets Only bin and prayed there was one little cockerel in the bunch! I'm tickled to death-I did the same thing with the GLW chicks and got a roo there too!

    Gender of Speckled Sussex

Thank you!! This bird belongs to a lady I know. She was afraid it was a roo-she'll be sad because it means she will have to rehome. No roos allowed where she lives.

    Another SS gender question

This one is about 10 weeks. I have another and the comb on that one is nothing like this chick. This chick also has some iridescent green feathers on its back that the other doesn't have. Thanks in advance!

    Sick birds-lost one already

I have lost four bird now-all Buffs. My other 5 breeds are hale and hearty. Why would that be? I still think it's cocci but am bewildered about the way it is affecting these Buffs compared to the others. I sure hope the last two make it-they do not seem affected at all so far.

    Sick birds-lost one already

That's actually what my little production reds were doing yesterday. They stayed close to her and seemed to want to be the buffer between her and my older hens who like to throw their weight around when possible.

    Sick birds-lost one already

Thank you-yes, I suspect Cocci and started Corid yesterday. My little pullet is holding her own although she's not happy about being in a dog crate! They are about 18 weeks old and were not vaccinated. I've had some weird white webbing in the yard-some sort of fungus I guess-and maybe that is...

    Sick birds-lost one already

My little Buff roo died yesterday after just a few hours of acting lethargic. All others seemed active and normal. This morning an older Buff pullet (they all free range together during the day) is droopy too but will get up and move away from me when I approach. (She is usually pretty friendly)...

    The Wyandotte Thread

Here are some pics of the chicks today. I was told the dark gray ones were GL but I see such a difference between those and this other dark chick with more gold color. The brown ones are supposed to be Partridge. I'd like to know what y'all think! I was told the chick on the left is GL and the...

    The Wyandotte Thread

Thanks! That's very interesting. I'm starting to doubt that mine are what I was told-I need to post a pic and see what the experts think!

    The Wyandotte Thread

I have some GLW and Partridge pullets and I've been looking for a roo for them. I can find Buffs and SLW locally very easily. I'm brand new to genetics on chickens-what would the resulting chicks be colorwise? These are all hatchery chicks-I'm not looking to show or breed for SQ. Just curious...

    Rooster Chat

That's funny! Nah-he doesn't REALLY keep order-I just meant he alerts us to when they are misbehaving so we can make sure no one is truly pinned in a corner. No-no rooster right now. I'm checking around with some local folks to see what they have.
