I really hope your traps work ... I can't imagine finding that scene .... I cried for days when one of my girls died from being egg bound let alone ripped apart ... My dog was least likely to be a chicken companion but he took to them straight away and has killed the odd rat trying to get in...
OMG!!! That is horrific!!! I have a big dog that is a chicken friend and find that helps keeping away any unwanted attention from the Country terrorists that want to get my chickens x
My chickens have the run of a large garden from early to late but are established so when getting new chickens that are vaccinated do you put them in and hope for the best?
I am adding 2 more to my girls and this has helped me ... they are free range and I have worried about the two new ones I will be getting but should I keep them in the pen for a couple of weeks without the others during the day so they know where to lay?
The ironic thing is I have just discovered I have IBS and I enjoy my chickens for the gorgeous feathered beings they are and give away their eggs and the absolute pride I feel by the compliments and requests for more ... My life has been enriched by my lovely girls and my children and dog have...
Absolutely ... I have noticed even the shell is of better quality and harder to crack, the yokes are bright yellow ... my girls are still laying in this snowy weather and seem very happy x
Since having my feathered mafia girls I have not bought a single egg from a supermarket and I supply my neighbour and my childs school as they request them ... Has anyone bought a supermarket egg since having their 'girls'?
My feathered lovely girls are called 'Back, Sac, Crack and Brazillian' ... I have been promised a Cockeral as a birthday present and need a name in keeping with the girls and 'Cocky' seems the only obvious one I can think of .. Any ideas ....
