On the last county show for meat chickens the judge told me my birds were not firm enough, the end of the breast that goes to a point is suppose to be more round an "U" shaped not "V" shaped, and one last thing he said that there wasn't enough fat in the keel bone/breast area. I need help on...
Welcome to BYC! I just finished a stock show and luckily made auction.
I started out with 25 chicken (broilers), they were in a 8 ft by 7 ft pen (made of plywood). I feed them the highest percent feed possible (26- 30%) along with a wet feed mash (1-2 weeks of age) buttermilk feed mash (3-4...
Yes it was until they were about 3 week old, it got too crowded so i had to cull 12 chickens and put them in a different pen (the same size) and that worked perfectly.

Also fermented feed helps ALOT and a high protein diet( 26-30% protein i found is best), cull them at 3 weeks (ex: 24 chickens down to 12) and at 6 weeks/ or a week before show cull it down to 6 ( or how many you have to show)
Thank you! I am now feeding them fermented feed, and gelatin ( unflavored, I read on a post on here that it is 83% protein and protein helps fatten them up) with there regular 26% feed. I will not be keeping them as regular hens, they are for show and they are 3 and a half weeks old. I need...
does anyone know if shortening will kill my chickens? im thinking about giving that with their feed to fatten them up, im already feeding them buttermilk substitute (1 cup milk, with a tablespoon of lemon juice)
I was quoting from another post, but i cant find that post, but thanks for the much needed info. I was going to try it on my cornish crosses that i will be getting next week, but now im skeptical, to use the aspirin.
I will be raising Cornish cross (broilers) November 1st. Does anyone have any tips for raising Cornish crosses for show. Does anyone have a good and cheap-ish method for getting them the biggest for show? any help would be appreciated
