Was this chick hatched with a diluted chipmunk pattern? I have a porcelain hen that was born this color (dilute chipmunk at hatch). She is the chick on the right. And as a mature hen.
I have a tom entered in a show this weekend and although I can handle him fine I don't want him to cause any problems for the judge. Do the judges pick them up and handle them? What is the exam like? This is my first show as well as my Toms. Any suggestions or input greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Not to hijack this post but I have the same problem, too many toms -who do you keep? I was wondering if anyone has the standard of perfection for royal palms? Is there one? All of mine are very tame but I would like to keep the closest to the standard.
I just got a trio +1 hen (a quad?) of Royal Palm turkeys. Trying to tame them a little with some hand feeding and sweet talk:) They are doing well but I was curious... Anything they can't have as a treat? Are they the same a chickens in what is good/bad for them?
Thanks,
Looking for silkied serama eggs to purchase. It is now too cold at night here to ship live birds but the incubator is still running and eggs seem to ship just fine. I have a small flock of good quality seramas and would like to introduce some of the silkied seramas into my flock.
I second this request:) I have a hen that is eating eggs. She is a VERY nice hen so I don't want to pull her from the breeding program but would like to keep her from the eggs. I do collect 2-3 times a day and she beats me to them:(
I had a link to a site with candled chicken egg photos, day by day through the hatch. I seem to have misplaced it. Does anyone else have this link?
Thanks,
Christy
Thanks for the compliments, I love my job:)
This is pretty scary (Fowl Cholera), I hate to assume the worst. I had read somewhere about dark combs and lack of oxegen? I am hoping this is something much simpler and less dangerous. Anyone know how long seabright bantams live?
I have a 5 year old seabright roo that is not up on his roost tonight. He was fine this morning and now he is hunched up down in a nestbox close to the floor (he is usually up by the ceiling). He let me reach in and pick him up -very unusual, didn't try to escape or fight back. His eyes look...
I use plastic totes for newly hatched and move them to plastic kiddie pools with chicken wire when they outgrow the totes. Only problem is you have to buy the pools in the summer or scavenge one from a friend. Even then I am afraid my silkies will outgrow these.
Hate the battery but I had to post it so my mom could see how tiny these chicks are. Hope this works:

Have seramas hatching, 2 out 1 more pipping so far. Very excited. Strong colorful babies. The The first 2 pipped at 10pm last night. One was out this morning, while the other didn't start unzipping until noon today. Was a little worried but I think she was just building energy for the big...
I have 2 different sets of serama eggs in my incubating hova bator at 45-50% humidity and 99-100°. My first batch of eggs at 14 days seem to be right on or a little behind on evaporation. These will be moving to the hatcher incubator on Monday. These also happen to be Franks eggs, great...
