    2026 Chick Thread!

I’m already ahead of you. My silly Seramas thought the snow and cold of December was the perfect time to go broody. I had two unauthorized hatches so now I have chickens in the house. (Normally they winter in my garage with a panel heater) this week it’s predicted to have -26°F wind chills so my...

Yes these boys are over-achievers. Although it's sutble now, they're only 2 weeks old! I was so surprised to the touch of pink already. Perhaps they'll be crowing in another week or two.

Here are the Dec 31st chicks Sometimes you can guess a Serama’s gender by observing little details around 3 weeks I think he’s likely a male: Sometimes they just scream “male” at 2 weeks! This last one is my best hope for a female.

1st chicks of 2026! (for me) Peanut's eggs hatched. She's got a Serama, a Silkie Showgirl, and a reg Silkie. Here's my favorite chick of the 3. Just look at all that Fluff! Pouty Face: Gotta count those 10 toes * Thankfully, Truffle came to her senses and stopped acting broody.

This was an unauthorized hatching. I found eggs under Popcorn (broody Serama hen). I candled and removed clears and quitters. All 3 of the developing eggs hatched. I like how I have one chick of each color. Who knows, they could even be Teddy's babies. Since they're Serama chicks and it's...

Double Trouble, my golden Sebright, is having a hard molt at the worst time. I had to bring her inside last week. No head feathers, no tail, and her stomach is all pins. Poor girl. Her molt may not look as bad as others, but her timing is awful. She decided to wait until our 1st "real...

Definitely. Double Trouble gets plenty of high protein feed and mealworms to speed up feather growth. Plus, she gets to watch TV in the family room. For a Sebright, she's actually quite tame. Trouble - our orig., 9 yr old Silver Sebright - has a very strong will and simply does as she pleases...

In very sad news, yesterday we lost our 1st silkied serama rooster, Teddy. He was an old roo and lived a very good, full life. He was my daughter's baby and nicknamed, "little Man." RIP our dear, Teddy

@Molpet and I had a nice “girl’s day” yesterday. The weather cooperated and we processed turkeys together. It’s definitely easier to do with a friend.

Sad news from the coop. Our oldest, dearest flock member passed away overnight. We will have a backyard burial for her later today or tomorrow. Tyrion lived a long full life (13.5 years) and we will all miss her and her antics.
