UPDATE: She just laid an egg & the egg seemed to be normal. Even cracked it open & yolk looked healthy, bright & yellow! However, the shell was rather soft & broke easily.

Still laying 80% with Freezing Temps! WOOHOO!! :)

Great Job, Girls! Are you giving them heat or light? (Are you sure they didn't sneak over here and steal the eggs that my 8 month olds haven't been laying???) @cottagechick: LOL!! Mine stay locked up in their coop, due to lack of fence & numerous dogs running loose in the 'hood. Their coop...

Still laying 80% with Freezing Temps! WOOHOO!! :)

Just collected 5 eggs for today (only have 6 birds total: 4 chickens & 2 ducks)... That tells me that our chickens & ducks must be happy even though they're prolly freezing their tail feathers off!! It's a whopping 29 degrees outside here in OKlahoma, when you figure wind chill, it's like 21...

We always had ducks, turkeys, chickens, ect... when I was young and even participated in the 4-H Chicken program in grade school, but it's a whole new level...

Does coop need to be heated thru winter??

Yes, we have the north side covered completely with the galvanized metal. (Thinking we might put the clear plastic corrugated over the window instead of the metal to let more light in the coop during the day). But the other angled side on the east is left open. Also, I do not shut them in the...
