My Starter Coop
and very first Building Project!
Let me preface this by saying: I've never built anything by myself -- only assisted hubby in remodeling projects, etc. Secondly, I've had chickens several years ago - like 20+ years ago, so I'm having fun renewing my chicken knowledge. I've...
These have been kept in waiting for many years (we have another set just like this one if we should 'happen' to get more chickens ). Vintage nesting boxes that need a good cleaning and the roost boards fixed up. We also saw a fixer upper set of these nest boxes (nearly identical to ours) for...
On behalf of my DH... thanks everyone!! Ok, some history on the door: When we moved into this ol' farmhouse 30+ years ago there were some nice, more decorative gingerbread screen doors already on the house. This particular screen door was not attached, simply leaning up against the wall on the...
I have pics of the little coop that I built on my BYC page, but wanted to show off hubby's coop. We are almost finished - just a coat of red paint and a few details, and the run. The flight netting arrived today for that. Of course, we knew we'd need more room with our little flock. And none too...
Girl Power!!! I love it. You really did a fantastic job. I built my little starter coop while hubby was away for a month, training for a new job. However, HE is building "his" coop now (almost finished).. a full-sized one. My little coop project gave me the building bug, and who knows what will...
I love everything about your coop and run!!! Great job... and those paintings are *priceless*. I'll have to check into installing the nipple onto a bucket for water. We have several cat litter buckets around here
I need to update my BYC page, but here's an update in the interim.
The Starter coop I built:
Interior, pre-poop:
(Back of coop and roost have been opened up for business as the chicks have grown)
Here is the portable run and chicken tunnel that the hubby built.
We can use this...
Some awesome coops out there, and I can learn things from each and every one - thank you so much for sharing your creations
Here is my first building project... mostly built with Farmgirl Power, although Hubby helped with tricky parts - i.e., slider brackets for window cover. He also helped...
Thanks! And I should clarify again - forgot to add it here. I plan to keep alllll the 16 chickens, so this is only their starter/brooder coop. however, with plans to make it mobile, it should come in handy as a portable coop w/ future movable run also. I sure have big plans.. LOL.. now to find...
Super awesome coop!! You *should* be proud!! 7 weeks? That really doesn't sound too bad for as nice as it turned out! I need to start on the big one NOW because I'm sure my day-old babies will outgrow their little one in a hurry.
Love your coop!!
The chicks arrived today (they were supposed to be shipped last week), and all 16 doing well so far. I need to update my BYC page for the ongoing story of the coop, and plan to soon. This has been a mostly Girlpower project by me (my first), however hubby has been helpful during certain tricky...
Finally updated last week's, and weekend progress (on My Page). Chicks arrive Thursday or Friday of this week!!! I also painted the coop yesterday (red) - no pics of the paint job yet, but I love it. I'm hanging doors tomorrow. Also need to put the tin on the roof and a few little 'safety'...
Great job! I'm building my own small starter/brooder coop, but definitely need to start planning the "real" coop now. Babies arrive next week and they grow up so fast. I love the idea of a framing kit. Hmmmm... need to check into this. I also love and miss "First Mondays" at Canton, TX (son used...
Thank you again. When I look over that 'still to do' list, I get a little antsy. Better find time today for carpentry!
Prospector, you are absolutely correct about the eggshell finish vs semi-gloss. I may re-think my choice. My biggest deciding factors are that the eggshell paint was free and...
