    Thank you to everyone for your support. A nice couple who live over the East Bay hills and own a small horse farm and chicken flock are picking them up today. They sound like great chicken guardians and I guess this is working out as best it could.

    Yes... It is extremely disappointing. I am definitely disenchanted with my beloved city of Berkeley. I did try, though... I tried very hard to make this work. I am sorry that it just did not work out.

    Anyone using the automatic coop door closer?

    THanks for the help, everyone. I figured out the problem - resistance on the door. I screwed the rails in rather firmly and the slight resistance this gave was enough to stop the door entirely since it relies entirely on gravity. Thanks again.
