    Egg laying sloooowed.

Thanks. These are my first hens and didn't know what to expect in a molt but I think that's whats happening. They are free range but have noticed some "clumps" os feathers in coop, and they have the odd stray. All a learning curve, but love, love my hens!

    Egg laying sloooowed.

I have 5 golden comets that have layed pretty much an egg a day since last October. They were a year in June but the last couple of weeks we have been getting 2-3 (yesterday 1) eggs. Is this normal?

Something coming out of vent - URGENT

Thank you for reply. Good news, it was a soft egg and the shell with the white...I noticed the yolk on the ground. The vet looked at her the next morning and thought it looked like egg shell, and I guess that's what it was. She was sore but has been going on the roost and this morning she was...

    Eggbound going on 4 days

I'm so sorry to hear this. I have just gone through the same thing this week. I had to take my hen to the vet and euthanize her, she was suffering and I tried everything I could for her. The day I came home from the vet, noticed my favorite hen have similar problems. I have noticed in the...

Something coming out of vent - URGENT

I just had one of my hens euthanized today (I believe she was egg bound) and came home to find another with a big, worm like thing hanging from her butt. Does anyone know what I can do??

    Egg bound...I'm very upset

I'm not sure if anyone can give me advice but yesterday morning I noticed one of my golden comets was acting like she needed to lay and egg. Early am, never paid too much attention. In evening I found her on the nest. I gave her a warm bath last night and again this morning. I kept her...

    Chicken "summer home"

Thanks Jack. I don't want to stress them out too much, it would be just nice to have them near. We have their "permanent" home insulated, not heated because sometimes it gets pretty cold here (Nova Scotia), but looking at your picture...gets just as cold there! This is my first time with...

    Chicken "summer home"

We have 6 golden coments (June 2011). We have a cottage we spend time at in the summer and we were thinking on building a "summer coop" (not insulated, one nest box) and bringing the girls along with us. Has anyone done this before? Would this be really disruptive to them?
