Thank you for reply. Good news, it was a soft egg and the shell with the white...I noticed the yolk on the ground. The vet looked at her the next morning and thought it looked like egg shell, and I guess that's what it was. She was sore but has been going on the roost and this morning she was herself...very, very happy to see that. I don't think she laid an egg since that day, I think a little stressed with trip to vet and a sleepover with us, but hopefully we will see her lay soon! The people at the feed store told me that I only had to feed my hens the crumbles, that it had everything they needed in it. I know now that after googling everything about egg bound and losing a hen, that they need more. I had been seeing soft eggs and have supplemented their diet with oyster shells this month, and will keep doing so. Especially when they have been laying almost an egg a day all winter and now the spring is here. I have noticed a big difference in the eggs. I love my hens, they bring me a lot of joy, I hate to see anything wrong.
