I wish I had made my roosts easily removable - for roost & coop cleaning. They always seem to be in the way when cleaning out the coop.
After 1 year I added barbed wire crisscross over my windows (which are mostly top half open) - keeps chickens from trying to sneak out and prevents others from...
Hi, I purchased 5 Easter Egger chicks from Tractor Supply this spring. One of them passed away suddently (what looked like a pullet, of course
), 1 stills look very "girly", one outed himself as a roo by attacking my "old" rooster and crowing and now I have these 2 brown ones left...
I have 2 Welsummer chicks, hatched sometime between May 1st and May 15.
I am not 100% sure but I think it is a little roo and a hen, so they would make a nice couple.
Both mom and dad are here to see. Mother hen lays beautiful dark brown eggs.
Local pickup only. $12 for both.
These are pictures from our first coop - a A-frame chicken tractor on wheels. It has 2 separate floors that are connected via a drop down door/ramp. The bottom section can be opened to let the chickens run outside. There is no wire on the bottom and even though we live next to the woods, we...
. Welcome to our C H I C K E N page
2008 was our first year with chickens. We really got started on it by a friend who has over a dozen chickens the year before - Thank you Corry.
So we spent the winter months building a insulated A-frame chicken tractor that could be moved all over our yard...
I've had chickens for 3 years, hatched baby chicks in the incubator last year for the first time. I kept these in a brooder at first, then moved them to a different pen until they were 18 weeks and could be joined with the older chickens and eat the layer food.
What do you do with the broody...
She (we hope) is 17 weeks old and behaves like a girl. We are not sure what she is (what breeds were mixed) but we are hoping for a girl.....even though we wonder considering her tail feathers...
Does anybody have any thoughts? THANK YOU!
I was wondering if anybody else here had the same problem - in the last 2-3 weeks we had a drastic drop in eggs. My friend, who lives about 10 min from me has the same issue. There has been no heat waves, no molting issues etc. We can't figure out why we get about half the eggs we used to get a...
They are very friendly, have not shown any fighting or mean picking with any of the other hens or roos in the run. But they are not the cuddly kind - you can't just walk up to them and pick them up like some of the "very huggable" chickens we have. I hope this helps.
Thanks.
I have 2 extra Welsummer cockerels for sale ($5 each), both are 11 weeks old.
Here is #1
Here is #2
We are about 30 min north of Pittsburgh. Both are healthy, have been free-ranging. We just have 2 too many. I will not ship these birds, so you would have to come and pick them up or maybe...
