  3. Just like kids and cardboard boxes, my chickens spend their day in the rough pallet "fort" I built them for sheltered fresh air instead of their nice coop. :)

  4. Polystyrene scraps insulated the ceiling, left wall, and floor. Laminate flooring scraps for walls/ceiling. Floor is covered with cheap stick tiles.

  6. Side doors for easy access to nest box and for cleaning. Blocked and insulated for the deep winter (-26 F) though. The vents are on both sides,one is uncovered, one the wood panel nailed up is an inch out from the opening for air movement.

    Eggs shipped in the cold..

    They should be fine, I live in North Dakota and have received eggs twice this winter without heat packs and all were well.

    Older hens kicking new eggs out of nesting box?

    My six hens are all the same age. One day I left an egg in their nest box for my son to collect which is a set of four nest boxes. When we went to get the egg a few hours later- it had been kicked out onto the floor and replaced with another egg. This has happened since then. If I don't get...

    Hey, Anyone from North Dakota? Even though I doubt it.

    Hey everyone! I have been reading all sorts of information on this site for months and finally joined in the fun! I have six chickens and an almost finished coop. I live in the tiny town McHenry, ND. Wondering about the winters, would a heat lamp in the coop disrupt their roosting at night?
