Thanks for the advice. I know they can get up to the roosts no problem because they are up there all the time during the day. Just not at night when I want/need them to be. Thanks for the tips though.
Hey folks,
So, we got our first two eggs this morning, which was very exciting! However, at this point, I have not yet opened the nesting boxes as I don't want the hens to start sleeping in them. We have 10 hens and they are about 18 weeks old now and the odd one will roost for the night on...
Hello folks,
We have the coop setup and our 10 hens seem to be settling in quite well. However, none of them are using the roosts yet, which I understand is normal since they are only about 8 weeks old right now. Having said that, when I was in the coop this evening closing up some windows...
Thanks for all the replies! Unfortunately the coop is already constructed and OSB is what fit in the budget, so that is what I have to work with moving forward. The whole coop is built up on 4x4 pressure treated skids and sits on a gravel pad, so there should not be any exterior water getting to...
Hi folks,

Hi folks,
I am in the process of finishing up the final touches on my coop and I have put lots of nice ventilation by not having the walls go all the way to the roof. I was thinking of covering these large vents with some spare screen I have laying around to help keep some of the flies, bugs...
Howdy folks,
Just new here and new to raising chickens. We have 10, day old laying hens arriving April 21/22 and are very excited to begin our experience. Our three young children will have lots of fun as well I'm sure. We are located in Ontario about an hour south of Ottawa around Kemptville...
Dennis, great to know there are some folks close by. We are brand new at this and our day old chicks arrive April 21/22. Hopefully we can share experiences and help each other out.
Howdy folks,
Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone here at BYC. My family and I are located in eastern Ontario, Canada about an hour south of Ottawa. We have never raised chickens before, but we have day olds arriving the end of April. We have built are coop and are slowly but surely...
