Hello!
We got our first real snow today (northern Utah) and we went to go check on our chickens. All of them were fine in the coop, save one--one of the gold sex link hens. She was wobbling around with her eyes closed. She's in the house now. She's alive and breathing, but not responding...
Probably about 40-50% of the grain mixture is wheat. It is definitely not moldy--we use human food-grade organic stuff that we eat ourselves, and we mix it in small batches. Yes, we are a bit weird, but we really, REALLY love our ducks!
No, it's not just the picture. "Mittens" is smaller...
Sorry about that; I should have thought of some of these things!
Let's see...
We got them in mid-March from a feed store. These are our first ducks that we've had, I think they were a week old when we got them. They are about 3 months old now.
They're being fed grain; a mixture of mostly...
Okay, first of all, I thought I had purchased all pekins, but three of them are, apparently, fawn and white runners.
Here's the real problem, though.
One of the runners keeps tripping over himself, can't seem to pick himself up for a few moments, and then will get up and run with the others...
PH1997:
It's been purple since we got her (about 4 weeks ago). She's kept in a secure place with the other ducks...snake bite is pretty much impossible.
toadbriar:
I was thinking along the same lines. Her feet and toes weren't purple, but they weren't the "right" color, either (the other...
We have had six pekin ducks for a few weeks now. All six seemed to be fine--excepting the one. S/he acted fine all the time, but her beak has always been a dark purple color.
This morning, she started acting strangely--walking off-balance, falling over, et c. Within ten minutes, she started...
Sorry it took so long to respond!
Speedy did end up being the only pullet...and she didn't start laying eggs until March 29...at 29 weeks old. Is that normal?
Her eggs are great. REALLY strong shell and the yolk is very orange.
We're raising 12 more chicks right now and hoping for better...
Well, we haven't heard a single crow, but I know that can vary. We're planning on definitely giving away Dragon and Adriana--we might keep the others hoping for the best. We'll see.
Thanks for all your help!
Thanks guys. So, there's really no hope for the others? Should we go ahead and sell everyone but Speedy? Should I sell them for $5 or just give them away, or perhaps sell them for more? What do you all think?
We're really new to chickens.
Thanks again for any help.
Hello. I posted ages ago, and now our chicks are 19 weeks old. We want to figure out what sex they all are. They are fed all organic feed and they free range in the yard a lot.
Okay, so here they all are:
