What does a grey silkie look like?

they are very pretty in overall type:) but they are not what the standard calls for in gray. but they are certainly examples you can work on gray from:) the light hackled, dark headed one looks smutty a bit. you'd want to use birds for breeding grays with the absolute least amount of gold / red...

Suze Yes, certainly agree. But its actual spits Im referring to. Along with possible over shotrtness of the axial and weak shafts. Splits. Have been seeing many good birds at shows with the issues. Frankly at crossroads there was even problems within the whites. Big old splits. And some judges...

This is the answer I found on side sprigs: A study published in 1926 on the inheritence of side sprigs, found that they were not a result from a mutation or single dominant gene, but that two autosomal complimentary dominant genes were producing the effect. So two totally different breeding...

    Silkie thread!

There are judges out there that IMO are not as tuff as they should be on wings. Im only speaking of silkies. If ever one can find a show where Glenn See is judging it would be a great thing to show under him. He is hard on them and he is a Master breeder as well. He'll give a silkie a fine tooth...

    Silkie thread!

Im sorry but all wings show issues. Wings in natural carriage should be tight and snappy held at the horizontal. Primaries folding under secondaries. And for splits one would need to fan out the wing to see all 21 feathers displayed.. Showing a distinct split in fan. Becareful not to over flex...
