whats with the crossing of a

lavender rooster to a porcelain hen in the d'uccles that they dont seem to thrive? what gene(s) dont get along in that crossing?

i have been told that they dont thrive, dont feather in right, die after hatching (which i just had one do my pullets 1st egg so i wasnt even expecting it to get as far as it did), or they die in the egg...mine acted like it was gasping for air.

There are genes that can cause what you are describing but improper incubator conditions can cause failure to thrive and the death of chicks during incubation. Make sure the incubator is running correctly.

I hatch hundreds of eggs a year- most hatches are great and I usually have one hatch that approaches 60%. Stuff happens.

the incubator and all are working hatched out 2 silver duckwing Yokohama that our broodies quite sitting on and they were fine. would you happen to know which gene(s) combos cause any and all of that that i listed?

A couple of other things you need to consider before assigning the problems to genetics. 1) did you thoroughly clean and disinfect your incubator before starting to hatch these? When I start having problems with hatching, that is the first thing that gets attended to, and usually corrects the problems. and 2) The health and feeding of your parent birds. Are they on a breeder diet or extra vitamins/supplements to make sure they are in top notch health before fertilizing and laying the eggs you are incubating?

None of the genes for mille fleur or lavender or d'uccles are lethal genes. There could be other recessive genes present that are replicating in some of the offspring, but that would not be my first thought unless you have crossed to short-legged or tufted birds.

Lavender can have some issues with feathering, and extended black allele birds ca have extra short down that can cause hatching problems, but none should have lethal problems.

several have said they have had problems with this crossing in d'uccles and im trying to figure out which genes could cause this. my lavender rooster is a hatchery bird and my porcelain pullet is from a breeder.

my incubator gets cleaned after each hatching with a vinegar and baking soda mix that i got off here and it has worked very well for me along with a soap scrubbing and 2 good rinses in very hot water (the water can scold you if your not careful it gets to hot) and drying. although i have yet been able to clean out the incubating incubator due to my staggered hatches which the last one is due to go into lock down the 12th so i will clean it then cause i have some more eggs ready to go into the bator. (i have 2 bators one for incubating and one for hatching)

my birds are feed laying pellets along with free ranging, strawberries, corn on the cob, blue berries, black berries, watermelon, grapes, and some times plain cheerios when ever i have any left overs or they are getting close to going bad cause i tend to toss things out 2-3 days before the expiration date. they love grasshoppers
