I am a first timer. I bought half a dozen of freshly laid of another species. This half a dozen is Silkie eggs, when I saw the dates written on the shells I have this question.
I picked them up from seller. Incubator has turning function, have put them in for first day today. Silkie eggs. I would assume they are all fertilized as the advertisement said.
I bought some fertile eggs and realized the date marked on more than half of the eggs are 11-13 days ago. They were not washed and I presume they have not been kept in refrigerator. If so, what is the success rate you would predict?
Hi,
I have an active Silkie rooster as a king to all the hens. He has been mating with the Isa Browns too. I couldn’t tell if he is successful. Do you think these two yolks are fertile? I tried my best for the shots.
Also, do you think Silkie crossed Isa Brown would be good layers?
Thanks.
I bought them from a farmer who hatched them whe they were less than a week old. He let me chose among a number of them, I just picked randomly. I only read about we can differentiate male and female chicks from wing feathers after being them home, when I tried to check their wing feathers, look...
Yes..but I still couldn’t relate their combs and wattles to adult roosters so I wasn’t sure. Anyway, their tend-to-fight behaviours Sometimes have shown off the hackle feathers and longer/stronger legs are getting more obvious now. I guess I have gotten the final answers..
Thank you 😭 I will take note on no.2 and observe longer. I also noticed the legs difference boys and girls. We have to mentally prepare to let the boys go.
