Our rat terrier Mouse is currently in second place in the "Finger Lakes Wine Country" official mascot contest. The contest ends Friday. He was in the lead until 2 days ago. I found Mouse at a shelter in Oregon where he was brought in after being found wandering on a busy road. He's a wonderful...
Our local Mennonite processor charges $1.80 per bird or $2.00 a bird if you want the hearts, livers, gizzards and feet cleaned and bagged for you as well.
I had to dispatch my first meatie this week after she broke a leg. We made a make-shift killing cone out of a flower-pot by cutting a hole in the bottom, wrapped her gently in a shirt and hung her through it. Her eyes closed and she went completely limp the second we put her upside down in it...
$20 a bag here for certified organic from our local mill. However, they're growing like mad on it so I've been cutting it with 1/3 long bearded oats, which were grown on our farm so were basically free.
My Cornish roasters just passed the 3 week mark. Currently they have food for about 16 hours a day. I remove the food about when I go to bed and put it back in within half an hour of waking up. So far so good. They are now without a light in the brooder and in a back room so I assume they stop...
I ordered 2 BO, 2 red stars and 25 meaties. They sent 26 meaties. They came in on a Sunday which worked out well for me. All the chicks were healthy and active upon arrival and still are, going on 3 weeks. I will definitely order from them again! I also used the grow gel and they devoured it!
My cornish roaster chicks are just over 2 weeks. I started mild feed restriction 3 days ago(14-16 hours with/8-10 without) to slow down their growth and prevent leg/organ problems.
Today I noticed that 1 of my chicks has green tinted legs. It seems fine besides that. Several others show a...
I like the idea of putting the food and water on opposite ends of the pen. The cornish roasters are supposed to take about two weeks longer than regular cornish x. I think they're just a slower growing strain of cornish x.
We're taking away the food for 8-10 hours at night right now.
I've got Cornish Roasters right now. This is my first time raising them and they're only 2 weeks old so I can't say how they'll end up. However, they're growing like crazy! I called MM and asked on this forum and the consensus was to restrict feed just like with the Cornish x, so I'm not sure...
Thanks! I'll plan on separating them pretty soon then! It's like football players vs ballerinas right now. Luckily the ballerinas can move a lot faster! That really bugs me if they're the same, as I got them especially for something a little more beginner friendly and slower growing. I know the...
Thanks! I just can't believe how fast they're growing! We have 4 egg layer chicks in with them and the Cornish are about twice as large as them already.
Maybe I should separate them if I need to restrict food for the meaties. So far it's been a fairly peaceable kingdom in the brooder but I don't...
