I've been tought to use a lead fishing weight on a string and hold it over their back (where the heart would be). I don't know if it truly works yet, but on all the 'known' birds it did LOL! Even on people when you hold it over the wrist. I'd been told about it before but met some people that...
I know someone in Ohio who is selling "show quality" frillbacks! I was thinking of picking some up when I go out there.
I just acquired my first pair of Jacobins and one of their squabs...soooo excited! LOL Will get pics up soon :)
I'm just getting into the Modern LF myself! It took several years to find them and mine are still in "project" stage, but I got some fabulous birds from a gentleman that was selling his 6 year project. I'll be picking through my started birds really soon as I need to get them set up and...
Needing some Bantam Cochin pullets or hens (would like a birchen but any color will do ) for broodies... Also needing at least one Egyptian Fayoumi pullet or hen for my son. I'm in South Central Indiana near Bloomington and am willing to do a bit of travelling for nice birds. The cochins...
Well, here I am, totally new to pheasants and extremely excited to have my first birds after wanting them for many years. Now comes the fun part: making sure I have the right ratios. I bought 6 total red golds from two different breeders and what I ended up with is 5 males and 1 female...
We love reptiles! My son got his first snake at 5 yrs old A 4wk old normal ball python. She's sweet and eats good. I have a three year old normal ball and two corns. One of the corns orange (not real sure of type) and a wild type grey one. Before the kids were born we had: an iguana, a...
We are in the process of training a 10mo old pyr. She's so awesome with everyone EXCEPT the chickens that get out of the pen and killed her second guinea today. She'd gotten a hold of my game cock and he walloped her so she leaves him and his ladies alone. I'm trying to be patient and...
Yeah, that's a problem, she's not let lose 'with' the birds...they get out of the pen and she nabs them...we've been working hard at reinforcing the pen to make it more 'escape proof', but the guineas are a trick. And reinforcing her that chickens are pets, not prey. The guineas roost in the...
We've used it and it worked well, none of the chickens had a bad reaction either (we used it for stick fleas down in florida...darn nasty critters) Sevin cured everything else! For the sticktite fleas we would cotton swab/qtip it around their face and bam, no more fleas! Now we make dust baths...
All right, this really sucks and this is the first time I've seen this.
I have an LGD that I'm training on the poultry (more on that in another topic later) but she's a pup and is still chasing/catching and occasionally killing birds. Yesterday morning she got a hold of a young (not quite half...
Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! And I'm already thoroughly enjoying the pheasants! They're sooo cool, from the way the look to the way they sound!
Hey all! I've been lurking on here for a month gleening lots of new info! LOVE the site
I have had poultry for many years, but am always learning, and this year got my first pheasants! Have their barn and runs in the planning stages (they're still little guys LOL), as well as new layer...
