Thanks for the advice!! We just got 52 meat chickens and had them on 24 hr food (they were 2.5 weeks old when we got them) we have lost 4. :( And they just didn't seem that healthy... Last night we pulled their food and this morning they seem to be doing better! I think 24 hr feed just over...
I have a broody Muscovey duck... she is one of 2 ducks we have, no males. So I gave her 10 chicken eggs! She is loving the nesting and seems to be doing well.
We have a pond, but it is going to be dried up by the time the eggs hatch, and I was thinking of taking the chicks to the brooder...
I have a little banty hen who was sitting on 7 eggs... went in there just now and there were only 3 non cracked eggs... some were completely gone! She is protective but the other hens are just bigger and meaner i think! I have found eggs in there that others have laid (removed them right...
So I have a flock of 24, last week a new RIR was introduced {on the 20th} (long story short, I wasn't home when she was dropped off, previous owner never said anything of her condition~ she only has 1 wing and she had a bubbly/foamy eye).
She was seperated from the flock as much as we could...
ok so i have the foamy/bubbly eye and the coughing and weak birds... we are on the other antibiotic available to us (can't remember the name, it is a liquid though...) in their water as only water source... have 24 birds (about 10-15 are sick, some worse then others)
went to vet, couldn't...
Ok i have this problem as well... along with coughing....
I took two chickens to the vet ($108 later... and no answer...) and found out it isn't a parasite... i am currently giving them some antibiotics in their water and will then follow up with vitamins.
I had one perons maybe say turkey...
I dont know of any... :( We are hatching our own right now... they are mixed breeds though.
My grandfather ordered from mcmurray for years (even had some issues with dead chicks arriving, and they sent out replacements the next day~ ended up not being their fault, but the post office people...
so i am just curious to see what happened with your chicks... this happened to me, it got hot for maybe a couple hours, (within the first 6 hrs being in incubator) then i got it cooled and regulated at 99.5-100...
They went in Friday morning, and have been stable since yesterday afternoon, they just had gotten really hot at first... then stablized, and have been good at 99.5-100 ever since... We will probably candle them tomorrow? I am really excited if they hatch~ or if at least some of them hatch! :)...
so we ended up with 47! :)
Little nervous though... we had the incubator regulated before the eggs went in, then put them in and it was all over the board! Got up way too high, I cooled the quickly, but it took a while to get them back up, but i thinkw we are good now...
did i cook them...
Well, we are doing our first hatch tomorrow! It should be perfect timing since my sons birthday is the 31st of this month! :)
We are doing about 40+ eggs... YIKES! but i am so excited.
Does anyone else have mixed breeds in their flock? I have a lot of pure bred chickens, however a few...
