    Need advice please don't judge

I know where i live they can come in and take your ducks if they are wild and put them on a game reserve and fine you. If you find a wild duckling and have them check it out and they say you can keep it they will give you a form saying you can keep it that way if someone shows up and says you...

    Proud Cayuga owners!!!!

I was told that they can handle 6 hens for every drake but I keep mine at a 4 or 5 to 1 ratio just to make sure I have fertile eggs and the fertility doesn't suffer if they can handle 6 to 1. I know a Rooster can handle 10 hens with no problem but ducks are different.

    Proud Cayuga owners!!!!

Okay I am still learning about Cayugas but I can say this my females were laying eggs at 6 months just a pekin or runner ducks. The male I have was trying to mate with the ducks once they turned 5 months old. He was picking on them before that it kind of looked like mating but he just wanted...

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

i would say boy for sure because even though hens have small combs this bird isn't even fully feathered and has a pink comb and it is big. The hens won't start to get a comb or have it turn pink or red until they get ready to lay. This is a rooster.

    The Duck Thread

I would always keep 2 drakes. I say this because I raise Cayuga's and we had only 1 drake for our flock and we had a neighbor dog come over and kill the only drake we had. Which ment we had to go out and find another drake but we went and found 2 drakes instead of 1 just so we have a back up...

Why did you get your first chickens?

Why did I get chickens? I had chickens growing up and use to love catching the headless chickens when it come time to eat them after raising them. We would only eat the extra roosters not our hens they gave us eggs. After growing up and moving off and having kids of my own I kind of missed...

    Japanese Bantam Thread!

I know this picture is bad and you can't see the black spots coming in but the one at the top you can see where the feathers are coming in black. Another couple weeks and she will have a lot more black on her.
