Introducing chicks to the flock with a momma who is DONE being a momma?

Hello everyone! 7 weeks ago we had one of our 1yo EE's go broody (again) so we thought we'd give her a couple chicks and snap her out of it. We added them at night while she was nesting and she went after them so we had to separate them for the evening. The second night we sat there and...

New layer, double eggs, soft eggs, "oops" eggs?

I'll give that a try as well, thanks!

New layer, double eggs, soft eggs, "oops" eggs?

Thanks! Yeah, I was saying the other Color Pack EE (the only other who is laying) lays bkue/green, the girl in question lays a linking brown, as seen in the photo.

New layer, double eggs, soft eggs, "oops" eggs?

We have a 4-5 moth old EE that has been having difficulties getting this egg laying thing down. She's only been laying for about two weeks now and she has really only laid 1 egg that I'd call "normal". She either has a soft egg, two eggs at once with both being soft, or a massive double yolk...

One of our hens sleeps with her head buried between two others

They have plenty of room. We have 2 roosting bars in there that stretch the entire width of the henhouse, roughly 5' 8“. They pretty much all cuddle together up against one side or break up into 2 groups like this.

We do have a cat come around but I'm unsure of how much it's tried to get in (it has no way in). Good to note!

Good to know! They definitely love to cuddle up with each other wherever they can and we love seeing it :)

Sort of, she's actually standing and if the other two move she gives a low grumpy cluck to get them to come back :D

I crack up when I see it :D If you give her skritches while she's doing this clucks at you with a low "quit touching me" tone :D

I'm sure it's totally normal but wanted to reach out. It's only one of our hens and it's usually don't before it starts betting too cold at night. Our henhouse has a very mild draft around the windows but stays relatively fine, temp wise. We're only in the 50's at night and the hens are 3 months...

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

That's awesome! I'm sure we're a couple months out before we will start seeing any eggs but are so looking forward to it :)

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I wish! No, we just cool the house as much as possible with fans in the morning and seal the house up. It's 77 in the house right now and 91 outside.

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

We'd much rather live in the country with some land but have young kids and the school district is amazing. The girls are going to be warm today but have a lot of shade until around 5pm or so. We'll drop some ice cubes in their water later but may end up finding a place to stay cool once the...

Hello from the beautiful Pacific Northwest!

Yeah, it's been super tempting but we're also enjoying that space as storage for chicken snacks and things like that. They will be 3 months old in a week and a half so we likely won't see eggs until the fall. Just taking our time and enjoying their eggless fun and fighting off the desire to get...
