Hello from the beautiful Pacific Northwest!

I took the boarding off out nest boxes today. Our pullets are only 4 ½ mos. old so I know it is too soon. I should have left then on like you.
I've been told that I will know when they are ready to lay when they do the "rooster squat" when you reach down for them. So far they just chase each other around the yard like a bunch of teenagers!!

Yeah, it's been super tempting but we're also enjoying that space as storage for chicken snacks and things like that. They will be 3 months old in a week and a half so we likely won't see eggs until the fall. Just taking our time and enjoying their eggless fun and fighting off the desire to get more chicks, knowing we are already at the max we are allowed to have in the city :D
