Do you leave the bloom on until being used?

I have hens that lay a brown shelled egg but lately some of the shells are getting much lighter and appear to have "freckles" ??? I don't have a rooster but because I share my eggs with friends, I want to make sure they are still healthy eggs. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks
