I am so glad I found this post. I have a hen, Rhode Island Red ,who is experiencing the exact same thing!!
She dropped all her feathers very quickly and now this morning she is wobbling all over.
I have had the heat lamp on for her this week in the coop because it has dropped into the...
I have a hen who has been limping for a while. I thought it was just a sprain or something because she is a heavy girl and I figured she probably hurt it jumping down from the perch. It got worse today so I looked it up here and found out she has bumble foot. I followed the advice and soaked...
I'm not sure who's more excited my three kids or myself!!
We decided to go to soccer and what ever happens, happens, but I sure will be bummed if I miss it!
I know this info is somewhere here, but I don't have time to find it. Our eggs were peeping this morning and now there are, cracked areas (no holes, just cracked and raised shell)
Here's the problem, after three weeks of carefully watching and taking care of our broody hen in our back porch...
Thanks for the reply. The chick was fully developed, I assume that the yolk sac was absorbed. The chick looked as though it had been pecked at a bit, but that was probably from the mom pecking to get the shell off??

Help, my broody hen is sitting on three eggs, started with eight, only three were good after candeling. I went out to check on her in my back porch, and found a dead baby chick in the pen with her. No shell just the chick, and it was out of the nest.
The eggs are due to hatch on Monday, but I'm...

I just gave Kiwi some canned corn, She loved it!!! I gave he a couple of kernnels and then put it on the other side of the pen. She got up and I was able to tell that she did poo, but not on the eggs!! I guess I'll just put up with the smell!!
Her nest is in a card board box a little bigger...
O.k. now I have another question.... I just went out to check on her and It smells like poop but I don't see anything. Is it ok for me to try to move her to check to see if she went in her nest? Also if she did is it ok for me to clean the eggs or what should I do?
Thanks for the help, Kiwi, my hen, does have food and water in the brooder pen as well.
I read last night about broody hens that starve to death rather than eat , I got nervous and decided to encourage her to eat!
Do you know if her pink comb and waddles are normal??
